Quickest Way To Monetize Your Blog [#10]

In this ProBlogger Flip Tip, I answer a question submitted by Janet Johnson:

What, in your opinion, is the best monetization and quickest way to monetize your blog when starting out?

I go into a lot more detail on the video, but here are the big three, in short:

  • Google Adsense. This is the quickest way to make money with a blog, but money will be very low unless you have a lot of traffic. So, essentially, this is the quickest (since you asked), but not the best.
  • Affiliate products. Sign up for the major affiliate networks (I mentioned Clickbank), find products relevant to your blog audience, and market those products in your posts. This is a way that you can make decent money even with a lower traffic blog. It all depends on the strength of your offer and the relevancy to your audience.
  • Sell Your Own Product. Bloggers write. A lot. So, it shouldn’t be a problem to author one or more PDF reports which you can offer to your audience as a paid product. The product helps them solve a problem, and you would price it accordingly for your market.

Thanks for answering my other question too!
Janet

I think you did a great job both talking through on the video and summarizing the key points in text. It’s a perfect blend.

I agree on productizing yourself. I’ve seen people succeed here when they failed with other approaches. I like this approach too because it’s really today’s knowledge worker market - find your unique voice, solve a problem, play to your strengths, and create value.

A lot of people have expertise and passions they can monetize. I think they just need the roadmap and to partner when they lack some of the key skills.

I use affiliate programs for my blog, but I don’t really make much money. Personally, I don’t think they work very well. I’ve really only made about $20 through affiliate services. Perhaps I’m not utilizing the ads as well as I should? Suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks

C

In the back of my mind, I’ve always kinda thought of Google Adsense as THE way to monetize a blog. This video helped re-think that paradigm. Thanks!

Any tips for creating your own information product? Layout, length, etc?
