Traffic Geyser vs. TubeMogul: The REAL Truth

Chances are, if you’re reading this blog, you probably already realize the power of video on the Internet. OK, great. Next logical step is to get that video out all over the Internet on as many different video sites as possible. But, how?

WARNING: I’m about to just call it like I see it. I am willing to be wrong, so if somebody has an alternative viewpoint, please post a comment on this post.

I have been a long time user of TubeMogul. It is free and it works with about 24 different video sites. It also has analytics capability to compile your viewership numbers from different sites and compile them and allow tracking individually. They do have premium options available as well.

Then, there’s Traffic Geyser. Now, this option is not free. You can get a 30-day free trial, after which you’re going to be charged $97/month to use it. That certainly isn’t cheap. However, when mingling with internet marketers, you hear Traffic Geyser talked about quite a bit. Even in my own mastermind group, Traffic Geyser came heavily recommended. So, I thought I’d give it a try with the 30 day trial.

I was unimpressed with Traffic Geyser after checking it out. Here’s why…

Traffic Geyser Seems Overrated

The overriding point to Traffic Geyser is uploading videos to multiple sites at once. When I go to enter profile information into my account, I count 23 video sites available. This is less than TubeMogul. Not only is it less than TubeMogul, but the sites that Geyser works with are, in a word, PATHETIC when compared to TubeMogul.

Some of the major video sites that Traffic Geyser doesn’t seem to support are:

  • Blip.tv
  • Break
  • Crackle
  • Howcast
  • Metacafe
  • Yahoo
  • Vimeo
  • Viddler

In lieu of some of these fairly major video sites, Geyser provides upload to sites like:

  • Adhysteria
  • GUBA
  • Kewego
  • Sharkle
  • Youare.tv
  • Spike

I don’t mean to be overly critical, but some of the sites that Geyser works with are just not that important. Yet they leave out several of the pretty important ones like Vimeo and Viddler. Now, one theory as to why is that these sites might be more picky about video content. Even with TubeMogul, you have to apply for upload access to certain video sites to make sure your content is relevant. With a bunch of internet marketers using Traffic Geyser, its probably fairly certain that a lot of the video content that goes through it isn’t relevant or how-to related. This may be the reason why Geyser cannot work with these sites.

Now, Geyser does have the ability to strip the audio out of a video and turn it into a podcast. It will then upload your audio to several podcasting sites. Geyser also have some tools for easier video submission as well as creating videos using slides.

I gotta be honest, though. I fail to see how this is worth $97/month. In fact, I fail to see how this is worth using at all if you have any ability to make videos on your own.

Undeserved Popularity?

I love affiliate marketing as much as the next person, but it just might be possible that Traffic Geyser has gotten overblown because all these internet marketers are making commissions through referral. Look at this headline from their sales page:

Picture 3

They use a headline which will cater specifically to marketers (“prints money”) and they use the name of Frank Kern, a guy who most definitely is well known in internet marketing circles.

I was so unimpressed with Traffic Geyser that I was left thinking that this thing is artificially talked up by people in the business because they’re all getting paid to refer people to it.

Am I just being a cynical bastard? Probably. A more likely answer might be that they haven’t actually tried TubeMogul.

Stick with TubeMogul

I’m willing to be wrong. I’m willing for somebody to tell me what is so great about Traffic Geyser when compared to a free AND powerful option like TubeMogul. I’d love nothing more than to promote Traffic Geyser to my readers and perhaps make some commissions in the process. But, I just can’t justifiably promote something to you guys if I think it isn’t worth the money.

If you know how to make videos, use Tubemogul to upload it to the video sites that matter. You still have full control of your keywords, and you can still submit your videos to social media. In other words, you can do everything that matters with TubeMogul and do it without spending a dime.

    ha,

tubemogul closed my account for uploading an affiliate marketing video.

    TWICE.

you CAN NOT USE TUBEMOGUL for affiiliate marketing or MLM.

it says so right in their terms of service,

and they closed my account in 2 days. So good luck using tubemogul for anything to do with affiliate marketing or MLM.

it's useless. they only allow " entertainment videos ONLY "
  • Thanks, was looking at traffic geiser but now i've changed my mind :)
  • Timely post for me. Just heard about TubeMogul and wondered of its value which you have now confirmed. Thank you David!
  • craig
Interesting post but seems a little biased. TG goes out to3-5 times more sites plus podcast, social bookmarking, blogs, and articles.
Tubemogul doesn't come close to that.
The only sites Tubemogul covers that TG does not in their free version is metacafe and dailymotion.

So for $97 with TG or free with TM, I would shell out the $97 because they dont even compare. Comparing those 2 services is like comparing a Mercedes with all the bells and whistles and a entry level stock BMW with roll-up windows.

One thing you forgot to mention are all the other benefits to tubemogul like analyzation.
Thats a great feature, but you get none of that with the free service.

    Compare the paid services.
TMogul paid service is $500 -$1500 per month. What? I contacted them, and I could not believe it when I spoke with them...Now that is highly overpriced
  • saucertosser
However, Tubemogul only posts to 5 or 6 sites at a time, after that they charge. Any idea what their cost is to get to additional sites?

Interesting take on Video Syndication services. I have been a long-time user of TubeMogul... several years and I have always gotten great results. I still recommend it to small business / sole proprietors who do not produce much content. However... I am also a use of Traffic Geyser because it's kind of like TubeMogul on mega steroids. The one thing I noticed missing from your article was real-world results. Your whole article is simply opinion. Where are the results of having used these services? I use them to grab positions in the search engines. Fact: Traffic Geyser lets me grab more SEO and more TRAFFIC because I get more positions is the search results faster than with TubeMogul... because it does things like Podcast syndication, article syndication, video syndication, status update syndication, etc., etc. that TubeMogul simply isn't built to handle. I haven't looked at their premium service for an apples-to-apples comparison with Traffic Geyser. I'm perfectly comfortable recommending TG simply on the training videos / tutorials alone. I have built a successful business based on the 10x10x4 tutorial video. The syndication tools help me deliver faster and better than the free services can offer.
  • Great post! I'll have to weigh the options of using a paid service over a free service. More often than not, a free service that is close to a paid service is far better. I've heard of Traffic Geyser and will give the free trial a shot, however, because I'm always open to new Ideas.
    Thanks for sharing.
  • lorrainegrula
Fantastic discussion you are having here! I have used TG and I think you are being a tad unfair, and inaccurate, in your post. TG goes out to a lot more sites that you list. Now, it might be a bit of overkill, but they have a huge distribution network. TG also has a lot of video training and tools to help you make videos. I never once have had any of the upload problems some other commentors experienced.
Now, having said all that, TG is expensive and may be more than lots of people need. Tube Mogul is excellent too and much better if you are on a budget of course. You can do a lot with either tool. TG offers a lot that Tube Mogul does not and if you want to blast out a TON of videos, then TM is no longer free! So some of your comparisons and statements against TG are misleading.
  • cspothitt
Wow. Great post ... I'm glad I've started using TubeMogul. Still trying to figure it all out, but glad to know I've made a good choice. :-)
  • melhardman
Amen! Brother: You couldn't have described Traffic Geyser more accurately. I paid them $97 a month for over a year...and only 4 sources ever showed up as generating any views for me: Google, Yahoo, MSN and Bing. All of those others existed only in Traffic Geyser sales pitch (as far as generating any responses). And "3,500 video uploads per month". Who the hell would ever create (let alone want to) 3,500 videos to upload? I finally figured that I can upload to those four big ones myself. Why pay TG that kind of money!

Speaking of paying them.... I should have realized right in the beginning the kind of people I'm dealing with: I signed up for their free trial right when they first came on the scene, but I didn't have my web site finished yet or a video ready to upload to them. When I did, I got a notice that my free trial had expired and I would have to become a full $97 a month customer if I wanted them to process the video I was trying to upload!

When I finally decided to dump them, I sent a polite conciliatory email suggesting that they might want to re-consider their fee and the "3,500 uploads" since both are beyond reality for most folks. I got back a response: "Sorry things haven't worked out for you. Guess it's best that you move on." My conclusion about Traffic Geyser? A hell of lot of hype and BS, and as you say... lot's of "guru's" on their bandwagon all cross-promoting each other. TubeMogul...here I come. Thanks for sharing your insight.
  • Thanks for the heads up on that, I was about to try TG , as it does seem to be promoted quite heavily by a lot of people, I may well take a look at TM now.

I have used Hey Spread in the past without too much trouble, and I believe that is free too.
  • Hi David. I heard about TubeMogul 2 days ago for the first time ever. Your blog post helped a lot. Cheers Rick
  • valsilver
Thanks - I was wondering about the difference between the two. It appeared that Tube Mogul was almost as good for free, but maybe it's even better in some ways.
  • simonwarner
I Tryed Traffic Geyser for 2 months, then cancelled, I has some great features, but it aint worth $97 a month, no way!
  • I have been a long time user of traffic geyser and uploaded many thousands of videos to the internet in the last few years. Traffic geyser has definitely been of value to me. i used tube mogul briefly but not for long enough to judge whether or not it is as effective. I do wish that more sites were with teh 97.00 membership and there is many failures of uploaded videos regardless for many reasons. Personally, i would like to find the ability to use both of them if i can manage it! Long live video ; )
  • neilcampbell
Thanks David that has been really usefull
  • Thank you for this post. I've met several people who are starting video marketing businesses that use Traffic Geyser as their backbone. In researching the company most of what I find is affiliate sites trumpeting the benefits of this company. Ironically, if this is so great, I would have thought that searches for Traffic Geyser information would bring up more videos. Wouldn't they use this amazing system to market themselves? In the end, I'm with you. I've been using Tube Mogul for a couple of years now. While not perfect - you should always go in and check your videos for accuracy - it is a terrific tool.
  • ebusinessmom
Enjoyed yet another one of your post. I've been following this blog and following you on Facebook for a while. Love this blog. I've used Traffic Geyser in the past, but not for too long. At $97 a month, I too thought it was over rated. I'm now using TubeMogul and getting great results. There are too many overrated products being pushed around on the Internet.
  • Thanks David for the insight, I had not heard of TG, but am familiar with Tube. I just don't use it.
  • Great Post, you saved me 100 bucks a month
  • MeetAna
Wow. I am ashamed to admit that I've been paying for Traffic Geyser for months now, never liked the way it worked, and yet never did anything about it. Now I am kicking myself in the...

I agree with all the points you made about Traffic Geyser. Now I am off to check out Tube Mogul.

    Best,
    Ana Hoffman/YourNetBiz Mentor
  • I agree with you completely on this one. Stick with TubeMogul. There are many other substandard, overpriced, and overrated video distribution services that are also heavily promoted via MLMers and affiliate programs.

It is a shame that the average consumer can be duped into thinking ads for video services are real reviews. Thanks for offering a real review - not because you are going to make a buck off people, but because you opted to report fair and square your honest opinions.
  • Thanks for the real review of the product. I use Onlywire for social bookmarking and TubeMogul seems like the same concept expect for video distribution.
  • kevinmcintyre
    David,
I could not agree more with your analysi. TG is a piece of crap. I had used it to help a couple of clients get better results in the SERPs. I basically had to go back to almost every site and do things manually because of all the rejections I received from the submissions through TG. I do not recommend this product to anyone.

    Thanks, Kevin
  • I fell into TG through a referral. I used it for 2 or 3 months and also used some of the other features they had besides uploading video. The landing pages they provide are nice but they have trouble with some auto-responder services and can you believe Aweber doesn't work well with them?

Their customer support is below average. Not responsive and did not solve a few issues- mostly technical..

I went ahead and created my own landing pages and had them working fine with Aweber. I am no technical person either. That is when I stopped the service. If I could easily get a landing page working...?

Never tried Tube Mogul. So I will set up the system today and give them a go!

Good post.I thought that $97 was too much for what they provide.
  • I am with you on this one. I have used both and feel I got cheated with Traffic Geyser to some extent. It was the one that was pushed on me originally from a "guru" and I didn't feel it was really worth the money overall. I liked the podcast submit piece of it, but then realized I could do the same thing with another software that I had and take an extra 10 minutes to strip and submit to a podcast directory site.
  • thanks for the comment about traffic gyser we use tube mogual but looking around for other options
  • Cassie
I completely agree with everything you have to say about both websites. I am currently in the free 30 day trial period with Traffic Geyser and just discovered Tube Mogul today. First of all, Traffic Geyser's website is HORRIBLE - it looks like a 13 yr old built it. Every time you click a link it redirects to a new window. Extremely annoying. Plus, like a previous commenter wrote (not sure if it was on the post or one of your others about this topic, I have been clicking back and forth), their support sucks - yes, you can submit a "ticket" with your question or technical issue, but the fast response comes from a "Do Not Reply" email so if they don't fully answer, you have to resubmit. For $97 a month you'd think they'd have phone support, or at the very least a better email system than a support manager telling me to submit a ticket with my question to the DNR person. I signed up for Tube Mogul a few hours ago and already got an email from an account executive welcoming me to the site and asking if I have any specific questions related to how I intend to use the site. Better customer service already, and it's free. Good bye, Traffic Geyser!
  • tube mogul is and always will be my favorite video submission tool. i haven't even tried traffic geyser, but from what i understand, the only real benefit over tubemogul is traffic geyser's ability to spread around to a more diverse group of sites. link diversity is important.
  • tungstenrings
I have used tubemogul and was considering traffic geyser. I will probably still use the free trial, but I don't plan on keeping it after the trial period. Thanks for the comparison. I was looking for something like this.
  • ebusinessmom
You are right on the money. I was a Traffic Geyser member and cancelled. I did not like the kind of sites they submitted my videos to. Also $97 a month with all the other promotional tools that I was using just didn't sit well with me. Thanks for your insight. I thought I was one of the only ones who felt this way. Yes, Traffic Geyser is highly overrated.
  • Thank you David. I was using TG for several months, to a large degree under the influence of internet marketers. :) I am sure it works for some people, and more powers to them. Didn't work very well for me - lots of technical difficulties, half of the sites had to be re-done manually because something didn't work etc etc.
  • HQUETTAN
This was very helpful David. I use to get caught up in a lot of hype on the internet, it took me 1000's of dollars to learn to do a little research first. You probably just saved me some more money. Thanks again. Best of skill in your ventures.
  • sandiegoseo
Dude, you rock. Thanks for shedding the light of day on the subject. I have been kicking myself for months for NOT buying into Traffic Geyser, purely because I thought the price was steep. Meanwhile, very recently I found out about TubeMogul, and immediately the flags went up for me, as in, "who the hell wants to pay $97 bucks a month for a service that can be had for free..?"

I had seen blogs and a post at the Warrior Forum talking about how Traffic Geyser was over rated to begin with, and with the technology being so straightforward, that soon some smart coders would just do a new and improved version for cheap or free....Looks like they were right!

And you are right about the old boy IM network pushing each others stuff. I was at MC 2.0 at the HardRock in SD a few months back, and the founder of Geyser, who's name I forget, was one of the guest speakers (i.e. speaker=sales pitch, every speaker there had a flood of sales in the lobby, right after their presentation.) Good guy, good product overall. But again, a really expensive membership. Anyway, here again, as usual, the marketplace is the great equalizer.
  • Name
Ive checked out tube mogul it seems to have some pretty crap websites, even websites that contain pornography so dont seem to see the point in both of them. Just distribute them yourself !!!!
  • SydneyJohnston
Thanks for your honest review. I tried Traffic Geyser when it was fairly new and about half our videos wouldn't load, so I quit and haven't been back. I will check into TubeMogul immediately. Like now. :-)
  • Interesting post - assuming this is still relevant I was going to publish some videos on YouTube and Traffic Geyser - as its an experiment and as what you say I will stick with Tube Mogul for now.

    Thanks for the honest appraisal

    Pete
  • I would try these two right after reading your blog. I think this very interesting. Nice post, as always. ;)
  • Like so many IM products - they become popular because someone says it is, not necessarily because it is that good. If some one has a buddy or two with a big list like FK, then he promotes it, then it'll become a big hit. Then it almost becomes trendy to say I use TG just like the gurus do.
  • I used TG. Costs $97 a month and they will also charge you $97 to create profiles for you. I agree that if you are doing professional video services this might be a good solution cause you can write the cost off on your taxes, but in the end I did not find this to be so much better than TM so the $100 a month is just crazy. This is an automated solution, so there is no reason for this to be so much money.

If you have professional needs then I recommend using another solution called http://www.contentbuzz.com/ that is only $30 a month and does as much if not more than TG.

The only thing I do like about TG is their blog has great video tips.
  • Although I haven't started utilizing the undoubted power of video marketing yet, I am nearing the point where I do and have read a lot of stuff that seems to point to Traffic Geyser being the best resource for reaching the masses. Your informative post has made me think again. You provide some great info and food for thought.
  • I have mixed feelings on TG and TM for that matter. Tried TM for a bit, but most of my videos would not post to the sites they say they post to. That's a problem. As for TM, I liked it better before they went uptown on us. They took away a number of the better sites, such as the ones listed in the original post, then added them back in to a much more expensive "platinum" package that goes for ~$247/mo. I think it included footrubs; or it should anyway at that price...
  • Excellent analysis, David. Good to see someone telling it how it is rather than just promoting the tool that pays the biggest commissions.
  • I put out an amateurish video for a real estate agent locally and got great results again with Traffic Geyser. I see that the for sale sign is now down on the featured property.

Traffic Geyser really seems to work for local listings. I have a video for my shop out that I put up almost a year ago that still has the number 10 spot in Google for my primary key word phrase.

    Bud Evans
    http://redneckaffiliatenaire.com
  • TubeMogul is a sham - free though it is, they refused to submit my how-to video to most of their sites saying that the content was not "exactly what those sites required". Stick to the paid services - you get what you pay for.
  • One guy asked about HeySpread.com, but no one replied.

Does anyone have an opinion of HS vs TG and TM?
  • Joyner
    I mean it's not worth $97/month.
  • Joyner
I've used traffic geyser for a while now. They say they submit your video to multiple blogs, but they have only one (blog.com) which can't upload more than 2 MB of video. You can add blogs of your own though and you can create a blog through their own site.

But it's not 97/month. People get rankings because of the promotion of the video. You can do that yourself so much better and without having to pay $97.

Some of the video sites in TG are useless.
  • Wow - glad I read this because I was totally sold on Traffic Geyser, thought it was miles ahead of any other service. Gonna do a bit more research on Tubemogul and then probably join them.
  • I read the article, every comment, use both TG and TM and own a online video marketing business.

1)There is a lot of blatant misinformation being tossed around about both TG and TM but mostly TG.

2)100/month is a bargain for my situation. It's also a bargain for business owners like Charles Evans who posted about his repair shop. Compared to spending thousands on traditional advertising, online video marketing is stupidly cheap. Hell I got a logo, biz card, post card, and some printing done and it was $750.

My first client is a window tinting business here in Indianapolis. His videos are always on the first page of Google (TG and TM vids). Go ahead and search Indianapolis Window Tinting right now and see. There will probably even be thumbnails for the vids. You can also check my site for a video testimonial. www.getvidloader.com

I'm about to add my 2nd 3rd and 4th window tinting clients (the niche loves it). And I'm also about to begin work for a surgeon with operations in 5 US markets.(medical is keyword rich) My point is that video marketing is still "working".

Bottom line: If you want to upload videos of your kids or your dodge ball match then use the free solution. If you want the best possible outcome for business USE BOTH.

My final thought - don't believe everything you read, question the source.
  • I just sign up with trafficgeyser because it seem to be getting alot of hype. So far it's been real pain because it take a day just to upload a video where tubemogul take about a hour or two depending on your status but i think i'am going to stick with tubemogul.. Great post
  • I would really like to know how Traffic Geyser could do this for the number of accounts that they have. It may have been done for one site. That does not explain how a small repair shop like mine could end up with two videos in the number 2 and number 7 spot on Google for chosen key words. They don't stay there but I can get them back to that position any time I want to.

Traffic Geyser is a dream come true for promoting local business. It works.
    Charles L. Evans
    http://redneckaffiliatenaire.com
  • I haven't looked at TG in a while, but their service had nothing to do with gaming video sites. There are plenty of programs out there for artificially inflating views and spamming comments etc.

I am not a fan of traffic geyser, but they are not a spamming service. You are mis-informing people and not doing a service to anyone.
  • I know this article contains very useful information. For the reasons David cites aove I too do not use Traffic Geyser. However I recently made a video exposing broadcasters who use Traffic Geyser and similar programs to cheat YouTube with fake comments, ratings and favorites.

I noticed a few videos suddenly appear on p1 of YouTube and Google. Closer inspection revealed:
...One video had 1500 views BUT over 1000 comments!
...Another had over 50 fake 5 star ratings!
...Still another had been favorited over 50 times!

These are unheard of statistics in this particular video niche.

This was all done to game YouTube and Google. So Traffic Geyser et al are not only submission services; they cheat YouTube and Google with phony comments, ratings and favoriting features.
  • I've been using TG for about 1 year now and it's working wonders for me and my clients. I've had a lot of success and owe it to Traffic Geyser. You have to do your keyword research and make sure you're descriptions are correct in order for it to work the way it should. If you don't you're not going to have much success.
  • I don't know about anyone else put I have had great success with Traffic Geyser. I like their lead page generator and the other tutorials. In my opinion they are effective. I use Traffic Geyser for exposure for my brick and mortar repair business. My keyword search phrase is "auto repair tri cities washington." We posted a couple of new videos on changing your own oil last week and with in a couple of days these videos were number two and number 7 (I believe) on Google for the primary keyword search phrase. There were 51,000 searches for that keyword phrase last month. I have gotten 2 to 3 new jobs a month from this usage plus it keeps my old customers in the loop.

I know that for local businesses and promoting local businesses Traffic Geyser is a bargain compared to what it costs to generate leads by other methods for brick and mortar business.

These folks are on the cutting edge of the new wave of business creation for the established small main street business. It has been very profitable for me.

I am experimenting using it for my affiliate advertising. The one lesson that I have learned is do your keyword research.
  • Actually what you're saying doesn't make any sense. TubeMoguls TOS is very clear that the purpose of TubeMogul is video marketing.
  • Jody. This is the first comment I have seen remotely close to this. Can you paste the email telling you that they have partnered with TubeMogul. I have not encountered any of the same problems you have, but if I am going to, I would like to prepare myself.
  • Norm Bush
My comment is,I am new guy on the block,it seems that there is a conflict of intrest if traffic geyser and Tubemugal are joined at the hip, they could be classed as scammers??if this sort of thing is going on,there is some very sneaky people on the net,I mean realy sneaky people, regards,Norm Bush
  • I wondered why my accounts kept getting suspended with Tubemogul. I did not post any violent, sexual, copyrighted material. I read all the rules. I still couldn't figure out why they kept suspending my accounts, of course when 1 account was closed on me, I simply opened a new one and then another. Had 3 accounts all together with 3 different excuses. The real excuse should have been in their TOS. I read above where they are charging $1,000 a month!!!! That is nuts. I think its a ploy to get you to go to Traffic Geyser because Tubemogul is partnered with Traffic Geyser now.

They have me 3 excuses why. I was first told I was submitting too many videos and I had only submitted 2 videos in a 2 week time period. Then I was told that some of the sites I submitted to that they had rejected my videos, I checked all the sites and that was just not true, they were all up. Then I was video spamming. So, I contacted them and thats when they told me that we could not use it for any promotional uses and they had partnered up with Traffic Gyser and that I should go with them.
  • Winnie
Me too! I had traffic Geyser for nearly three months. I had the 1 one 1 training before I even submitted my first video. I read their news. I email help desk more than 10 times to figure out why I not ranking. I had watched their training video and had no success. I even read their training guide.
  • james lewis
I just canceled my TG account. It doesn't work any more like it used to. Several months ago I could get on the first page of Google in a couple of days -- and sometimes, many times on the first page.

It doesn't seem to be working that way now. In the last two months I have over 300 submissions... and no listings on the first page???
  • When I am wrong, I will admit it. In this case, I may have been wrong. I think that the issue is the 'human approval' delay. I am seeing some of the videos appear today. I am not ready to replace the systems I have in place with Traffic Geyser, however, it looked to me like it was giving false positives, and I think that in fact, that might have been me just jumping the gun.
  • This comment is to Benjamin P.
I think that you did not follow directions on how to set up your Traffic Geyser accounts. It takes a good 4 or 6 hours to set up all of the accounts correctly. I made that mistake when I first got Traffic Geyser. If you set up your accounts correctly and follow up on the various sites to establish the account it works very well.

I get over an 80% success rate on my uploads and they are all commercially oriented. In less than a month I went from not being ranked in Google for my repair business to the top ten for my keyword search phrase. This was for a Google total of over 400,000 entries. This one thing alone makes Traffic Geyser a plus for me.

I just wish that I had more time and more staff to work the program harder.

    Good Luck,

  • I have been trying out traffic geyser for the past two days, I was also told it was the end all be all. I went into it slightly skeptical and loyal to my personal choices. I was won over by the interface and the ease of the automation, that was until I noticed that none of the videos even made it!. After checking the successful uploads, I can see that the video was only posted to Google and Yahoo. I would assume that the sharing sites are wise to the ip block of TG, or something like that. I posted totally non spammy home videos made with a Mino HD, and none of them made it.

This is a clear case of the "Guru" incest that goes on. Do not bother with Traffic Geyser. Behind the polished exterior is a piece of junk..

I have had Traffic Geyser for about a year and am satisfied with their results. I use it mainly to drive traffic to a brick and mortar repair shop and it works. I don't begin to use up the submission credits each month which are 3500, That is 3500 videos submitted and accepted by a site. One feature that Traffic Geyser has that I really like is the ability to submit the same video with minor changes to the sites a week apart. I disagree with those that think the training is bad. I got started making videos with the training that they gave. Have found that great videos are not required. Since I started I have upgraded to Sony Vagas and Camtasia.

I would have to rate them, Traffic Geyser, a 8.5 on a scale of 0 to 10. That is right next to the training given by Rich Schefren.

Just curious Charles. Do you have to set up seperate accounts at YouTube and the social networking sites to do this or can you use your own accounts? I am starting to market to my local area and was wondering if I'd need to set up different accounts for each business that I submit the videos to? Thanks for your help and thanks for the comparisons everyone has put out as I have just set about to do research as to which service to use.
  • I've just started using TubeMogul and hit their 100 submissions a month within a week. That's 100 sites submitted to, not 100 videos...

I enquired about their premium services, they start at $1000 per month for 500 submissions.

Time to start pruning down the list of sites I submit to? I'd like to produce more than 5 or 6 videos a month!

I haven't tried TubeMogul yet, but I have tried Traffic Geyser and one thing is very obvious: in spite of Traffic Geyser pitching this as quick and easy, there is NOTHING quick and easy about any part of this. Customer service is lame (and only via email - no phone support) and many of the pages are poorly designed. The 'training' videos are almost useless since they jump back and forth between topics. The concept is great but you'll need a LOT of patience.

Well, I have been using T Geyser for 8 months or so. I really do think it is an amazing service. If you are REALLY into video, and that is your gig, it really can work well. You can spend a lot of time in there figuring stuff out.

Now, I did notice that many of my submissions did rank in the first couple pages for a time in Google. However, on my main sites' traffic...well, it really did not increase all that much over the usual. It's a bummer you can not track who watches, then visits your site.

I would say that it made a difference, and is cool, BUT!!!

    Here is the BUT...

At the same time I also did TubeMogul.

Using the same keywords, I noticed them ranking too, and in sites that mattered.

So, If it was like a $37/mo tool, I think I would keep it. It really is super cool how easy they make things, store videos, create RSS, etc... They DO know what they are doing and this is something VERY different than TubeMogel.

    So, TG is excellent.

BUT... did it make a difference on my traffic or bottom line? I am not so sure.

I am going to use TubeMogul exclusively now and give Traffic Geyser a rest.

Who knows? I may go back. I can always plop my accounts back in there and start over.

OH! Mogul DOES upload to MySpace (response to person above)

So, I love Traffic Geyser, but at $100, I did not really see it explode my traffic. And I did solid KW research too.
  • Hi,
The one thing I hate about TubeMogul is that it doesn't upload to Myspace or Facebook. That's where the real viewer loyalty is coming from. Sure youtube is #1, but myspace and facebook are the most important after that, because those sites are about relationships. They are the foundation of all online networking right now.

What about HeySpread.com? I don't post as many videos as you, and I haven't given them any money yet. But if I can upload to the 5 highest watched video sites, and only pay $0.50 per video, then for me, that's worth it. Especially if I can upload to Myspace and Facebook.

    Thoughts?

    Mark
  • I was searching for the cost of TG when I came upon your listing. Glad I did. Thank you for your post.

Thank you Dave for your knowledgeable totally valid comments. There are many points of interest some of us could not be aware of unless we are acutally in these systems.

Perhaps some 'marketers' simply don't want to understand the concepts of Social Sites, but we all agree on one thing: they are great for marketing. For this reason it's a blessing that most people who use Social Sites do so for it's intended purpose.

TG is probably good for technophobes like me. I want to podcast but don't know how and I want to do it quick and easy via iphone. The other benefits are certainly useful too.

I'll sit on the fence meantime while I learn what TM is about...apparently does not help with stripping audio tho.

    Thanks David.
  • Jon
Great review... I will give Traffic Geyser a test-go though, just wished TubeMogul has a bit more competition on their hands as it would make them drop their price of entry (membership wise) down and maybe even expand their offerings which are always getting bigger by the month!

  • Great post dude! Thanks for this one! As someone who uses video as a MAJOR part of my online activities...I had been looking at TG but I just couldn't justify the price for myself with TM being free.

I always said I wanted to "upgrade" to TG but this is a great review of what actually is inside the system. I like the podcast creation feature...as that just gets your content out more...but I will see if there is other things that can do that. I'm sure most video editors can export just the audio of a video.

thanks dude...you're talkin right up my alley man.

Hey I use both and I think they work well 2gether.

    Have a Happy New Years

    :)
  • Dave, the thing to keep in mind with that is that if you have a robot submitting everything you do to social bookmarking sites, it is considered spamming and will dilute the effect of your profiles on those sites. It is SOCIAL media.

TubeMogul does have shortcuts for submitting to social media sites. But, it isn't automatic and that is proper, IMO.
Anybody who wants everything auto-submitted to social bookmarking sites just doesn't understand social media.
  • Dave
The difference between TubeMogul and Traffic Geyser shouldn't be measured by cost or the number of "quality" video sites they each upload to...

The difference needs to be results based. Ultimately since you're comparing the free TM to the $100/month TG it is only fair to take into account the cost as well.

This amount of time, at this cost/month produced this much revenue. THAT's the comparison that is relevant to me.

Traffic Geyser does have some extra features as pointed out -- but the big one isn't converting videos to podcast audios (although that is convenient and ultimates saves time which equals money).

The big thing (to me) is the mass amount of pinging, social bookmarking, and feed creation that happens with Traffic Geyser.

Now, this "benefit" has to be worth something. I've seen the short term organic search impact of bookmarking, feed aggregation, and pinging in terms of $$$'s. I made a leap of faith that it would be the same with video and hence prefer TG to TM.

But... to be fair this depends on a few things. Depending on how many videos you do a month it may be cheaper to pay someone to do all the bookmarking for you manually or with a tool like nuke.
  • Hi David- You are right on point. I have created, produced and uploaded over 130 educational videos about New York medical malpractice, wrongful death and personal injury law.

I spent a long time debating whether to make the jump from tubemogul to traffic geyser. My conclusion was the same one you reached. Tubemogul rocks and traffic geyser, although it comes with a lot of hype, is not for me.

Keep telling it like it is.
  • Great advice, and well said. I don't think this particular category of software is a solved problem yet, but TubeMogul does seem like the best choice today.
  • David thanks for your honesty, instead of making $1,000's through affiliate sales you tell like you found it.

You have just gained a subscriber and a fan.
Now for some word of mouth. Cheers, Brendan
  • digerati: I never said Kern's stuff was crap. In fact, it isn't. I've used Kern's stuff and it is actually very good stuff.

I'm only referring to Traffic Geyser, which is not Kern's product as far as I know.
  • Im so glad you wrote this article and busted Frank Kerns chops.

I felt like his crap was just that,....crap.!!!

  • Thanks for the information, I am only using video on a very small level, but I do have plans to implement it more soon.

And I was considering purchasing Traffic Geyser because of all the hype around the internet marketing circles.
  • Thanks David for the insight, I had not heard of TG, but am familiar with Tube. I just don't use it. I know, shoot me know. Yes, I am a video blogger, not sure why I don't use Tube. I will start soon.

Still getting the hang of all of this stuff and loving it in the process.

    Thanks for the info!
  • I was looking for video service just last week, I will be looking into the list and look into it...
