Using Adwords PPC to Get Twitter Followers. Smart?
I was using Google Gmail the other day (as I do every day) and saw this ad block in my email. The second ad is for a Twitter account: Dolphini. I checked out the Dolphini website and apparently it is a colocation data center in Nashville.
The most interesting thing is perhaps the most obvious: these guys are using pay-per-click to drive traffic, not to their company website, but to their Twitter account. When you check out their Twitter account, you see that they are using Twitter properly. In other words, they’re being SOCIAL.
They’re investing in the customer relationship, not in a hard sell. On the flip side, however, Twitter doesn’t really lead to money in a direct way. Twitter is about relationships. So, I’m not sure how their ROI would be on this.
What do you think? Is this a viable strategy? This is the first time I have personally noticed anyone paying to drive people to their Twitter account. I wonder how much they pay cost per click?
