Using Your TubeMogul Account Strategically to Upload Videos

Several days ago, I compared Traffic Geyser to TubeMogul and threw my wholehearted support behind TubeMogul. I stand by that totally, but there is a caveat here that TubeMogul users have to know if they are doing high-volume video content.

TubeMogul TubeMogul is a free service – up to a point. Traffic Geyser has unlimited uploads, however the sites that they work with are pretty lame. TubeMogul works with the best video sites out there, but they provide 150 launches with their free account. This means that for every video upload to another video site, you take up one of your TubeMogul “credits”. After 150 launches, you’re done. After that, you’re basically a business user and that means you’ll need to start using the premium business accounts.

The premium TubeMogul accounts are NOT free. In fact, they’re not even cheap. They start out at around $500/month and this will give you another 500 uploads available for the month.

I was uploading my Flip Tips to 15 different video sites using TubeMogul. I don’t do videos on the weekends, so on the high end I would be doing videos 25 times per month. 25 videos x 15 sites equals 375 uploads.

Now, most of you are probably not doing videos every day. However, if you do a lot of video, you need to start using TubeMogul strategically to stay under the 150 upload cap otherwise you’re going to have to go premium.

Use The Video Sites That Actually Matter

You have to ask: Why do you even bother uploading your videos to multiple sites?

The obvious answer is (1) more eyeballs and (2) SEO benefits.

It would make sense, then, to keep the end goal in mind and use the video sites that actually matter. Obviously, Youtube is the big cheese. From there, Yahoo, Myspace, Metacafe, Google, Viddler, DailyMotion and Vimeo are probably the most important. Howcast and 5min are good if your videos are tightly how-to related. But, sites like Crackle, Imeem and Break are very niche oriented and don’t really have a lot of eyeballs.

So, put your eggs into the baskets that give you the most return. If we concentrate just on the ones I said are most important, that would cut down my 375 uploads per month down to 200. If I cut another 2 sites out of the mix, I could get down to the 150 cap and still push out 25 videos per month.

Whatever you do, never fail to upload to Youtube. They are the big guys. From there, you might experiment to see where your videos get the most views. Then, use TubeMogul to upload to those sites and skip out on the rest of them. Also, keep in mind that uploading a how-to video to a site which is mostly entertainment related isn’t going to give you nearly as much SEO value than uploading to a video site which is exclusively tutorials.

Think Before You Upload

TubeMogul is still the best game in town, but just keep in mind that there are caps placed on the free accounts. TubeMogul is a business just like everybody else and their money is made on the high-volume accounts. Paying attention to the sites you upload your videos to will provide you all the benefits you’re looking for without necessarily needing to pay to do it.

I like the fact you asked the right questions and rank ordered sites based on traffic / impact.

I actually encountered submission errors on a frequent basis with Traffic Geyser. SEO impact, just as you stated, was only beneficial on a couple of the video sites submitted to.

Cool man! I’d like to talk to your about your experience with Traffic Geyser…as I’ve been thinking about it. I do videos pretty frequently, and was doing them daily for a while. Most of my posts have a video with it.

I did the same thing you did, and used TM strategically…focusing only on the major sites that would bring me the most views. Yeah…you’d like to blast to all the sites, but I found out like you, choosing only the main sites is the best way to go.

Another thing…if you submit to those niche sites and they don’t like your video content for their site…you still used up a credit!

Good stuff man.

Thanks for the tip dude. I am just getting into video for my blog. I just bought a Canon GL2 and set up a “video studio” in my basement to do just that. I was inspired by Gideon at Become A Blogger. I will have to check out TubeMogul.

I never even heard of Traffic Geyser and I got a heck of a lot of 3D animation assembly videos (over 200) so I will surely check that site out. I must say though, MetaCafe has gives me the most traffic out of all the video sites out there. TubeMogul is am amazing program, not sure why they don’t offer a cheaper option as 0 –> 500$ a steep point of entry.

I think you just saved me a few hunderd dollars by giving me the cons on Traffic Geyser.

Well, I used to like Tubemogul, yes used to. I uploaded 7 videos within a 3 week period, most of them were tips about marketing and whatnot. I even mentioned Tubemogul in my videos. Most of them were around 50 MB each and I got an email saying they disabled my account. Im sorry, but thats b.s. Here is the exact email they sent me below..

“We noticed that you have been uploading a large number of videos that have been rejected by our partner sites. As a precautionary measure we have deactivated your account. If you think you have received this email by mistake, please contact us as comments@tubemogul.com and let us know. Please include info about the type and volume of content you have been uploading”.

I never received 1 email from the 5 sites that I was uploading to telling me that any were rejected, and I even went to all those sites and all my videos were posted. All my videos are my own content, nothing illegal at all. No copyright laws were broken. So, I don’t know. I’m disgusted to say the least.

Well, just an update. Tubemogul is kicking many many people off. I was informed from Tubemogul directly that they are partnered with Traffic Geyser. So, it is my opinion that they are kicking people off and suggesting they use Traffic Geyser so they can profit.
