Optimizing Your Blog’s Opt-in Rate

In this video, I use my own blog as a case study on optimizing a blog’s opt-in rate. By this I mean turning more of your visitors into email subscribers.

A few guidelines that I recommend:

  1. Place your opt-in form above the fold.
  2. Use a provocative headline along with an “ethical bribe” such as a free report.
  3. Make sure the form is noticeable when you scan the page.
  4. Use multiple opt-in’s (below the post, for example).
  5. Use the Action Comments plug-in to convert commenters into subscribers.

  • Hey Justin,
The checkbox is by Action Comments, a plug-in I recommended here last week. Great plug-in.
The other opt-in is just part of the theme. No plug-in.
  • Justin Zimmerman
Is there a script or plugin you use that ties into aweber for the "opt" at the bottom of each post?

    Thanks Dude!

PS: I also notice that you have "subscribe to blog updates..." button that is automatically checked, is that a plugin that ties into the email address of the "leave comments"

    Double thanks!
  • The one at the end of the post is just a theme modification. I just put it into the single.php file of the blog's theme, and I got the for HTML from Aweber and modified it to look OK.
  • David, Another great post. My question is related to the email opt-in box at the end of your post, is that a WP plug-in or actual code in your post page template?

Can you explain how that is done? Keep up the great content.
