Confessions of a Six Figure Professional Blogger

Ask Dave Any Question About Blogging

My regular readers know that I make my full living online as a blogger. I know a little something about it. And I started this blog to help people do the same kinds of things that I do. So….

If you could ask me any question, what would it be?

Think about what you consider to be your biggest obstacle to achieving your goals with your blog. What could you ask me to hopefully get an “a-ha” moment where you can then run with it and handle your confusions?

One quick work of advice: try to be at least somewhat specific. Asking me a question like “How do I get more traffic?” is so vague that I cannot possibly be of much help.

I look forward to your questions.

Hi Dave, I really love your site, I get alot out of it, so keep that awesome information coming...

Question: I am in the process of setting up a membership site, I have developed the content to go into the site and hired someone to create the site using wordpress & amember.
So my question to you is how do i go about launching this to the world...? Is there any strategy's you can suggest that i do. I can spend some money on this as well...

Thanks and I you get this well... Adam
  • Great... I hope you pick mine and use it as a case study for improvements.
  • Dave,

Quick question; can you tell me about the rss subscription box that appears at the top of each post. Is that a feedburner option or did you create that?

    Thanks for sharing your expertise!
  • Dave - no responses yet or are you planning to do a seperate post?
  • Yes, Chris, I'll be taking people's questions and answering them in separate posts. :)
  • David,

I was asked today by a close friend to help point her in the right direction to begin blogging. She'd like to start an online business giving advice.

Could you help me set her on the right path?

    Thanks!
  • Hi Dave !

Thanks a lot for letting us the chance to ask you a question directly.

I come from Switzerland (which explain my poor english ^^) and getting started on the "internet marketing niche"... Through the reading of blogs like yours, I'm beginning to switch from a "mini-site selling infoproduct" model to adding a blog and using it as my main traffic, conversions and branding provider...

But the problem is that there is far less people that are french-speaking than english-speaking... So my question is : is a blog worth the time investment for a potential readership that is quite smaller than the english-speaking one ? Is it still usefull and efective to build a professionnal blog in langages spoken by much less people in the world ?

Thanks a lot in advance for your answers !

    Dushan

  • Hi Dave,
My blog is a resource for "all things landscape." I'd like my readers to have a convenient way to search and locate specific items and topics. Currently I'm using a dedicated page for all my Tags and I have a Search field too. How would you accomodate this need?
    Thanks so much,
    Roger
  • morning Dave,

I'll like to hear your top three suggestions for driving traffic to a new blog. Content creation comes easily...it's the marketing aspect that creates a challenge.

    Thanks man!
  • If you could go back in time, just before you launch your business blog, what is the "1 thing" you would like to change? and Why?
  • How do I approach prospective interviewees to be featured on my blog, have sent a request for interview email to each ideal candidate and that hasn't worked.
  • Hi Dave,

How would you recommend to approach bloggers if I want them to review my product and get the answer?

    Thanks
  • Dave,
Great idea. I'm just going to lurk because I'm sure you'll get asked all the questions I have so far. :-)

  • Hi David,

I just found your site and love it. I am a big JohnChow.com, ProBlogger.net, ShoeMoney.com and CopyBlogger.com fan and now I have found another site that I will bookmark.

I have a question about adding videos to a blog. What have you found is the best for quality? I started with YouTube, but their quality is terrible. I joined Blip.tv and I just got Vimeo Plus, but I am wondering if there is still a better choice. I was thinking about trying ezs3.com with Amazon S3, which I see you said you recently signed up for. Have you tried it yet? I would love to know what you think.

    Thanks,

    Doug
  • How many hours per day you work with your blog?
  • What suggestions do you have for the newsletter I recently started on my blog about netbooks?

    netbook reviews

Look in the upper right hand corner. I just set it up last weekend (no subscribers yet). I may experiment with lightboxes later to get more people to subscribe but what should I send to them?

My blog has netbook reviews, netbook news and netbook news. Should I just send out emails on netbook deals to make more money and instill a sense of urgency or what do you think? Is it wise to repeat content that I've already posted on the blog?

I know I need to come up with another incentive to get people to subscribe - perhaps a netbook buyers guide?

I just tossed out a few ideas, but I know you're good with newsletters so let me know what you think.

    Thanks David,

Long time reader - first time commenter.

What Motivates you to Blog? I know it is a very simple questions but it is important to know why you are passionate and why you like to blog?

Sometimes this blogging game is not for everyone and it is good to know your motivations for blogging because obviously you are success ful to those of us still working our way up the ladder.
