Tactic for Maximizing Revenue From Your Blog

Let’s start looking at every page and post on your blog as real estate. What are your most valuable properties?

Use any number of the various stat systems out there to determine what your most popular posts are. Then, evaluate each of those posts for ways to leverage the additional visibility to your advantage. Can you make your opt-in form more visible? Can you place a relevant affiliate offer on the page?

I use a plug-in called Custom Post Templates to individually give custom layouts to high-value posts. As I mention in this video, I used this to create a custom layout with an affiliate offer on a product review which attracts a lot of traffic from Google. Placing this offer on this one post has resulted in an additional $500-$600 per WEEK in additional revenue via commissions in selling this software.

What opportunities do you have to maximize the leverage of your valuable internet real estate?

  • That's a great idea! I think most bloggers and affiliates forget that you can customize individual posts, or are too lazy to do it. Imagine making an additional $2k a month just by tweaking one post?! That's almost a full time income!
  • Thanks for the info and by the way, your videos are getting better and better. I mean that you in front of the camera appears very natural for you.
  • It would be great if you could provide a link to the page you mentioned so we could take a look. Thanks.
  • I always forget to capitalize on my popular posts! That looks like a great plugin.
  • I agree with Steve's comment... I would love to see your post to see exactly how you are maximizing that page. I think it would be a GREAT BENEFIT for your subscribers :)
  • David--
Thank you so much for this video! My friend sent me two links to help me learn about monetizing: one from DoshDosh and the link to this video.
DoshDosh was filled with a lot of really great ideas---I'm sure--but I really had a hard time reading it. It kinda read like blahblahblahblahblah for 20 minutes---and I couldn't figure out how to relate it to my site/concept.

And after four minutes with your video I completely understand! Thank you so much for explaining the concept with the Custom post template. Makes so much more sense now!

ps--also, I haven't had a chance to thank you for the Mastermind meet-up in Tampa last week! I learned so much from everyone and looking forward to next month!
  • Doug and Steve, in my case, I basically placed a super relevant affiliate offer very obviously on the post. Here it is:

  • David, at 54 seconds, what was the plug-in that you are talking about? I've listened several times and can't seem to understand what you're saying!
  • mackmcclendon
    Once again, thank you David.
  • Excellent David. Another takeaway if not obvious yet - if your blog is not on the WordPress platform you will not reach your full earning potential. We're moving from TypePad next month.

    Thanks,

    Derrick
