Blogging About Blogging: Fair Warning

This post is an off-the-cuff, shoot-from-the-hip response to a guest post today by Derek Jensen over on Blogussion. In his words, stop blogging about blogging already.

In short, I agree with his post. But, I thought I would just offer my viewpoint on this – from the perspective of somebody who clearly blogs about blogging.

Product Launch Formula Review [Video]

So, by now, you’re probably thinking, “Yeah yeah yeah, Dave. I know… every internet marketer in the civilized world has been promoting PLF and now you’re just piling on.” :)

Well, sorta kinda. Here’s the deal…

I don’t usually jump in on launches like this. See, as we all know, some of these launches are pretty “hyped up” and I just don’t like participating in them. Especially when all that hype is aimed at a product that may or may not be any good.

The thing is, Jeff Walker’s Product Launch Formula isn’t that way. Whatever hype you may have seen this last week – it was deserved.

How To “Top Kill” The Big Leaks In Your Blog (Better Than BP Could)

The truth is, most people’s blogs leak worse than the Deepwater Horizon leak in the Gulf. You’re not leaking oil (obviously), but what you’re leaking is attention units.

The biggest commodity online today is ATTENTION. So, if we break it down into a measurable pseudo-quantity we’ll just call “attention units”, we can then look at our blogs from that perspective.

Our blogs are supposed to be magnets for attention units. And once attention units are being flowed at the blog, the blog should funnel them efficiently. Not bounce them off or waste them. If you’re leaking attention units, it is a waste.

So, our goal is to attract as many attention units as we can, and KEEP them once we’ve got them. In this post, I’m going to look specifically at the leak points and how to plug them. We’re going to “top kill” the hell out of those leaks, and we’re going to put BP to shame in the process (which wouldn’t be very hard, given the circumstances).

The 3 Big List Building Mistakes Bloggers Make (And How To Fix Them)

By now, we all know the importance of building up an email list for our blogs. It helps you to bring people back, build the relationship, mobilize your audience and, yes, make money.

The problem is that most bloggers are dropping the ball on actually growing their email list. It comes down to some real basics of making the offer. These are basics that, quite frankly, have been stated time and time again, but few bloggers apply.

Last week, I did a Q&A call with my Blog Masters Club students. In addition to answering questions, they watched me record a couple of videos in real-time. One of them was this video which discusses the typical list building mistakes.

My Product Launch Formula Experience & Review

I want to tell you a story. Actually a couple of them. :)

Back in January of 2009, I was sitting on the balcony of my cabin. Sitting there on the Crown Princess (A Princess Cruise lines ship), my wife and I were relaxing in our cabin. We decided to get away – just after the 1-year birthday of our daughter.

There is no land in sight. Just the blue water of the Caribbean, racing by several decks below at a speed of 20 knots or so.

I pulled out my laptop. Oh, don’t worry, I had no intentions of actually working. Are you kidding me?! No, instead I just wanted to check in on a promotional campaign that I had set in motion before I left Tampa.

The 5 Big Hurdles Facing Bloggers On The Path To Revenue

So, you want to build up a popular blog. You want to make some money from it. You want to feel that sense of accomplishment. Plus, this stuff is fun!

So, you sit down at the computer. You open up Firefox. You check your email. You check Google Reader. You read other blogs and get some ideas for your own blog. This is exciting stuff!

Oh, crap. It is late. Time for work, life, sleep.

Next day, perhaps you feel like tweaking your blog. So, you spend a few hours on it, messing around with code. You research PHP stuff. You go through a ton of trial and error with your Wordpress theme. After many hours, your blog might look a little different. But, traffic hasn’t changed. You haven’t even written anything yet

7 Web Services I Use Every Day As A Pro Blogger

I am a big fan of working “in the cloud”. Meaning, I like working online and having things based on the Internet. It means I can run things from anywhere and from any device. In running my online business, I’ve come to rely on a handful of web-based services. For me, these are the most [...]

How To Secure Content On Amazon S3 With WordPress

Amazon S3 is a cheap, flexible and powerful way to store files. If you embed movies on your blog, for instance, using S3 makes a lot of sense.

But, there is a problem – anybody who knows what they’re doing can STEAL your content and do what they want with it. This isn’t a problem with S3. The problem is in how you interface with S3.

Amazon S3 Basics

No doubt, I have a lot of readers who don’t use S3 or have no idea what it is all about. So, let me address that first.

Project Update: Team Building, Sales Page 2.0

This is my weekly spotty project update, where I tell you what I’ve been up to this week in my business and share what’s on my mind.

I’ve always said that the real work of a problogger is mostly behind the scenes, and nothing proves that more than what I’ve been up to lately. While this blog has come down to more of a 3-post-per-week schedule, there is no rest.
