The #1 Fear that Keeps Bloggers from True Success

This is a guest post by Nathan Hangen.

Bombs? What Bombs?

In August of 2008, just days after I’d arrived in Kabul, Afghanistan, our house was rocked by an explosion near the embassy, which was just several blocks away. Considering we were all asleep and had just arrived in country, we all jumped up with a “WTF?” expression on our face, and upon learning that the rocket attack was over, went back to bed.

Months later, I signed up for a 5K race at the embassy and at the last minute, decided to sleep in and skip the race (hey, it was 6AM!). Turns out that was a good decision, as there was an attack on the complex that day too.

Why Buy A Premium Forms Plugin For WordPress? [Gravity Forms]

Gravity Forms. Perhaps you’ve heard about it. It is a premium Wordpress plug-in which allows you to create forms for your blog.

Gravity Forms was on my “someday maybe” list for awhile. I checked this site out and thought, “Hmmm…. that could be cool. Their website sure is purty.” :) Then, a couple weeks ago, I went ahead and picked up a copy and gave it a whirl.

So, the question is, why bother with a premium Wordpress plug-in to do forms when there are a bunch of freebies like Contact Form 7 out there?

3 Simple Steps To Running Your Blog Like A Business

This is a guest post by Srinivas.

For any blogger that intends to make a living from his or her blog, there comes a time when the necessary shift from blogger to entrepreneur must happen. In fact I remember Darren Rowse writing somewhere that his wife gave him 6 months to turn this “blogging thing” into a real business. The results speak for themselves.  Almost every A-list blogger, including David will tell you that at some point you have to start treating this like a real business.

The problem is that most bloggers don’t have a clue how to run a business.  The reason is most of us have always worked for somebody else, so we see something like blogging with its low barrier to entry and think “Sweet. I’m going to make money blogging.”  Let me share some interesting quotes from some extremely successful bloggers that I’ve interviewed:

8 Desktop Blog Editors To Make Your Blogging Faster

Most of us have used word processors such as Microsoft Word or Apple’s Pages. These things are super easy to use when you compare it to the post interface inside of Wordpress.

Don’t get me wrong – they’ve done a great job with the post interface in Wordpress. However, there are certain things you can do with a local program that are much harder to pull off inside a web browser.

Did you know that there are programs you can run on your computer to post to your blog? You don’t really HAVE to use the Wordpress post interface. In this post, I’ll go through a few of the leading options.

[EXPOSED] Six Figure Blogger Screws Up, Tells All

Today, I’m going to tell you how I screwed up.

In the process, I’m going to divulge some very fundamental marketing concepts that, if you apply, will save you a lot of hassle in the future.

The “screw up” has to do with my Inner Circle program. It is a tale of not listening, of ASSumption (caps intended ;) ), and going down the wrong road. Let’s jump right in…

Why I Switched Away From Wishlist Member

Today has been hectic.

Aside from some unusual family distractions, I’ve had to deal with a last-minute switch to a different membership site solution. And that’s about as fun as slamming a finger in the door.

I’m switching away from Wishlist Member. Wishlist is a pretty popular Wordpress plug-in for “out of box” membership sites. A lot of people like it. Plus, as a subscriber of mine pointed out to me, I actually promoted it to my email list last week. So, it makes pretty odd timing that I’m ditching it.

Open Q&A Workshop For Inner Circle – Thurs, 9/16 at 9PM EST

I want to invite all of my Inner Circle members (which also included Blog Masters Club alumni) to an open Q&A workshop that I’m doing on Thursday.

Thursday, September 16th, at 9:00 PM EST.

And we’re going to try something different. :) See, last week, I did a LOT of 1-on-1 consultations with fellow bloggers, helping them out with everything from site design, list building, to finding the right marketing “hook” for them to spark people into action. And it was pretty fun TALKING to you. :)

“Red Clay” Outsourcing – Why Pay Someone When You Can Do It Yourself?

This is a guest post by Dave Doolin.

David invited me to write an article about my “red clay” perspective on outsourcing.

First, a disclaimer: I’ve outsourced around 6 figures worth of work in the last 4 years, over $90,000 in 2008 alone. I’m a big believer in getting the right help for the job, and I’ve put my money where my mouth is. But I’m also a huge believer in self-reliance and just “getting it done.” That said, let’s get on with it.

Most of what I read about outsourcing in the blogging community is well-meaning, and not exactly incorrect, but it is incomplete. It seems mostly about the excellence of outsourcing: “Profit! Riches! Yes! Outsource! Outsource! Rah rah rah!” While I agree in principle, this irrational ebullience is a little short on specifics. And the specifics are where it really matters.

Is Blogging Success Kinda Like X-Files?

The truth is out there.

But, “they” don’t want you to find it.

Those two sentences more or less sum up the jist of the Fox hit show, The X-Files. Mulder and Scully, out there in a search for the truth. Funny, that word “truth”. As if it is some far-flung thing that we can’t quite grasp. Yet, the famous “they”…. well, they get it. But, they want to keep it to themselves.

Funnily enough, the X-Files show even had a secret group called “The Syndicate”. These were the guys who formed a cabal in the U.S. government to keep the conspiracy under wraps. They were the bad guys. Ironic title for the group, given the recent uproar over the so-called internet marketing “syndicate”, with Frank Kern as the supposed gang leader. Is Kern the smoking man? ;)
