Confessions of a Six Figure Professional Blogger

4 Bloggers Doing It Right

There are a lot of great bloggers out there and I think it is only fitting to point them out.

These first four are each people I’ve met. They are good at what they do, and each provides examples of right things to do as a blogger.

Erica Douglass

erica_unseminar5 Erica blogs about success. She talks about blogging, business and self-improvement. I really appreciate her style. She provides a lot of value on her blog, but she also brings her personality to the table.

The number of things she does right is, well, high. :) She uses images to highlight her posts (something I really need to be doing more myself). She makes effective use of her email list to drive traffic back to the blog. She understands the power of relationship marketing. And, she creates products to sell.

She’s also a helluva nice person. She and I met in San Diego in April, where we and a small group shared some extremely overpriced sushi. ;)

If you want to see how it’s done, check out Erica.Biz and you can follow @ericabiz on Twitter.

Nathan Hangen

Picture 34 Nathan came onto my radar earlier this year when he began to comment on this blog and did a guest post. We started interacting on Twitter, then in October we met up at BlogWorld. It seems that, since then, I’ve been seeing his name all over the place! In just the last few weeks, I’ve seen him guest posting on the likes of CopyBlogger and Problogger.

Nathan focuses on lifestyle design, with a focus on how to use the Internet to design that lifestyle. I enjoy reading his unique take on things.

What is Nathan doing right? He is producing great content. He clearly realizes the power of networking and connections. He is actively working on creating products, and the guest posting he is doing is putting him on lots of radars across the Internet.

You can catch Nathan Hangen’s blog, or follow @nhangen on Twitter.

Mike Crimmins

Picture 35 Mike lives here in the Tampa area, so I first met him at one of my internet business mastermind meetups that I host here in Tampa. Once we met and he told me about his blog, it immediately stood out to me.

It is about coffee. I repeat, COFFEE. It is one of those topics that would just never have occurred to me to dedicate a blog to. Not only does he make it work, though… he REALLY makes it work.

I like Mike’s writing style, too. The little injections of coffee humor are fun, almost as if he knows it is funny to have a blog about coffee. ;)

But, it does great traffic and I know he’s making money with his blog. So, he’s doing it right.

Mike is active on Twitter. His content is well written. His blog is branded very well for his topic. His list opt-in box is well located. His blog is obviously a niche blog, but I think he hits the nail on the head with his approach.

You can check out Daily Shot Of Coffee, and follow @shotofcoffee on Twitter.

Lisa Morosky

CurrentBrandingPhoto-150x150 Lisa is my virtual assistant and that’s how I met her. I put out a call for a VA on Twitter and she replied (along with many others). But, Lisa stood out because she exhibited a true interest in blogging. In other words, she wasn’t just going to be executing orders I gave her… she CARES and shows it by doing it on her own.

Lisa has really exploded since I first met her. She is still a VA for Bloggers, but she is busily practicing what she knows on her own business. She is even setting up a new membership site over on SpendLessOnLife.com (not to launch until January).

Lisa is doing a lot of things right. She is posting good content. She is running a great newsletter for her mailing list (I’m on her list and I enjoy it). She is out there in the social media space, making connections constantly. And she’s straight-up witty. I think its awesome. :)

You can check out Lisa Morosky’s blog, and follow @lisamorosky on Twitter.

    Cheers
    Tim
  • Oh, and I think Pat from The Smart Passive Income blog would be my nomination for a blogger 'doing it right'!
  • I was having a re-read of this post.

When I read it the first time, on a wintry, dark evening, the picture of Erica made me feel all cold and shivery! However, today when I was going through the article, I visited her blog and at once I felt all the warmth I needed! I found it really refreshing.

Thanks for bringing these bloggers into my radar.
  • I read your blog regularly and especially enjoyed this post about up & coming bloggers. Every Sunday I publish a "Posts of the Week" list and this post was included in my most recent picks. Your site is very helpful for those of us who are striving to become full-time bloggers.
  • I only started networking a couple months ago, but so far I've met several bloggers who I think are "doing it right." They have picked interesting topics, created great on-site branding and I get excited everytime I see a new post by them in my reader.

I'm actually working on a guest post for ProBlogger to highlight how each of these fantastic bloggers has really shaped my "community" experience during the last couple of months. Can't wait to share.
  • David I'm glad you found at least one person who doesn't blog about blogging. Thanks for thinking of the rest of us!
  • David great list they all deserve to be here. COE Blogger Extreme John is another one that does things right.
  • I loved this post as it was like introducing other bloggers, especially the ones 'doing right' and bringing their thoughts into focus.

I really enjoyed the coffee blog. On a cold day, reading it is like sipping of coffee!
  • Thanks nezine, hearing words like that is really amazing.
  • Very interesting post, it has a great motivational value, I must say.
I don't really plan to be a pro blogger (who lives from blogging only), but this post gave me some more motivation for my blog writing anyway.
And coffee blog, really? Genius idea, would have never thought of it.
  • It was pure luck, I started more than a few blogs before I focused on one of my passions.
  • Hey David,

Ran across your blog on Problogger. I recently read that I should align myself with people who have what I want to have or who are working to accomplish what I am working for. After reading this post and reviewing your profile you fit right into the first category.

That simply means your blog is going on my RSS reader so I can follow your blogs and learn what I can.

Great stuff and I look forward to following you.
  • Well David I think you should start a series of this kind of other blogger introduction. May be once in a week and you will be able to get love in return from other bloggers as well.

Just an advice to you and instead of four go for two.
  • This is awesome. I always get to learn more about blogging from real bloggers. Thanks for the share David.. I shall check out all their blogs
  • Dave, thanks for this info. I'm alreading & following Lisa. Now I have to look up these others also.
    MrMomInVA
  • Howie
    Hey David,

I am VERY surprised that Pat Flynn, from smartpassiveincome.com, hasn't been mentioned yet....

    :)
  • Let me tweet all four.
  • Blogosphere can be such a small place. I was landed at your site much earlier than this and I haven't got the chance to revisit until today, which is one of the reasons I love about social media sites -- bloggers will meet each other again someday, somewhere, somehow. Nice seeing you on Twitter, by the way.

It's very nice of you to acknowledge these wonderful bloggers who I have yet get to meet! I'll be sure to pay them a visit respectively, sounds like some nice people to mingle with. Wish you best in the coming year. Here's to a good friendship ahead, cheers!

  • Hi Dave,

I think Nathan Hangen is about to explode onto the scene with the book "Beyond Blogging" he coauthored with Mike CJ, which is due for release on Dec. 28th.

Nathan is a real work horse and has so much energy.

Also, thanks for turning me onto the other three bloggers!
  • This is a great idea Dave! And I agree with all four on your list.

I'd nominate Sean Platt who you'll find at http://writerdad.com and on Twitter @seanplatt

    He's doing it right.
  • Nice to see you included a couple of ladies in the post David. Out of the four I've only been exposed to Mike Crimmins though one of Extreme John's post, and I agree he has a nice style of writing about him?

Erica's blog looks interesting so I reckon I'll go and check it out.
  • Really honored to be included with the other bloggers on this list. They all have been on my radar and stand out from the crowd to me, was really surprised to see my name up there.

Thanks for including me on this list Dave. It's been a year with a whole lot of work, but the rewards (not just monetary either) are starting to come in and I think 2010 is going to be an amazing year.
  • I have the same feelings about 2010. It is going to kick ass. :)
  • Nelson
You should check out www.storyfix.com by Larry Brooks. It's a site for writers, and it's got some of the best (and freshest) content about how to write a novel or screenplay I've seen. It just got him a major book deal, too. Thanks.
  • Awesome list. I always enjoy these kind of posts. I'm going to be on one of these lists within 12 months, so watch out ;)
  • Great site you got there. You might be on a list sooner than you think. ;)
  • I commented on Erica's Facebook status and told her this, but I clicked on the link she sent out about this article so I could read what Dave said about HER. What a neat little surprise for me to see myself mentioned here, especially since Dave (more than anyone else) knows how hard I've worked and how my life has changed in the last year. And a lot of it I willingly attribute to him taking such a crazy chance on me.

I'm going to pass the love on to Amy of http://www.simplysugarandglutenfree.com/. I love the look and feel of her blog. She's a total sweetheart. And I love seeing people turn their adversities into incredible blogging opportunities. FYI - her blog is all about sugar-free and gluten-free cooking.
  • Hmmm, I can't even imagine how much technical, personal, organizational and motivatinal improvement I should do to get on their level of quality.

They are lions and tigers, and I am just a small kitty... :(
  • This was refreshingly different post! This is the kind of "blogosphere love" I'd be happy to see more often.

I've followed Nathan and his blogs for a while now and couldn't agree more, he's definitely doing it right. Lisa's blog I picked up here before and been a subscriber since. And now I have two more great bloggers to check out.
  • Wow, ok that was weird, couldn't write the comment there for a while, some weird share widget was embedded in the Disqus comment box.

Anyway, just like to say thanks for the great post. I know, follow and read Nathan's blog. He is a great guy.

I also follow and read Mikes stuff. Can you believe that you can write so much about Coffee. All I do is drink the stuff. Now I read about it too. That reminds me, where's that Cup-a-Java I had just now.

Follow Lisa, and Erica on Twitter, but have to make an effort to read their blogs
  • I've heard of Erica's site and am subscribed to her list before, but the rest are new to me. I'll have to go check them out!
  • David, let me be the first to say thank you! Caught me by surprise :)

The great thing about meeting people like you is that I can talk about my passion (business, blogging, money, internet, you name it) without sounding like a geek. I'm looking forward to hanging out in Tampa next year.

A huge thanks to you for showing us the way :)
