Confessions of a Six Figure Professional Blogger

Ask Dave Anything – Public Q&A Webinar

I have decided to do a free, open public webinar. And the topic is….

Whatever you want. :)

Seriously. Ask me a question and I’ll try to answer it on the webinar.

I’m going to hold the webinar this Thursday night, June 3rd, at 9:00PM EST.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. RSVP For The Webinar Right Here
  2. Post your question(s) below as a comment. I may take real-time questions on the call as well, but no guarantees. Best bet to get your question answered is to comment here and post your question.
  3. Attend the live call. :)

Lastly, spread the word. If you know others who would benefit from this, let them know about it. Retweet it, too. If you feel like it anyway. :)

I’ll see you there!

  • Hey David - I am told 'selling products' online is NOT the way for me to start earning some money - I do not agree - is this true? IF you have time - Do you absolutely HAVE TO have a list to get noticed & make $$ - I have been top of Google for months & months already!

    Many thanks!!

    Hey D.R. question for ya,
In your opinion, Is it risky to test multiple, related niches (well sorta related) on one website? Or should you just chunk it down to one niche and if that doesn't work try the other?
  • Susan
If I follow your blueprint and get much paid activity to my upsell membership package, what can I do? It's only been a few days, am I being unrealistic? How long will it take to generate more interest/income? How can I better promote it? Thank you.

Questions: Any tips for adsense?, Any tips for newbies at affiliate marketing?, Best traffic tip?
  • What tools can you use to see popular keywords people search for, and how can you not become a douche in the process of creating a blog. On the internet of course.
  • Q: I'm opening a small RF stock photo blog in July (BloggerVisuals.com). Should I add several thousand image posts before launching or should I do multiple daily posts for SEO purposes?
    Thanks for any help. wayne
  • Catch you there guys

    David,
I have the product complete, a book that I sell in PDF format. I'm looking for an easy low cost way to automatically distribute the product. I would like to have a link from my website to Paypal or shopping cart and once the product is purchased it would automatically be sent to the purchaser through email. I currently send the product manually after a Paypal purchase. Can you give me some direction on this? Thanks for your help
    Mark
  • Mark - the easiest way to distribute your product is to have the customer forwarded to a download page after ordering. The way I do it is send them to a password protected download page after an order goes through, at the same time have Paypal or 2Checkout.com or Clickbank (I use different payment processors for different products) send out an email with the password at the same time - so 5-minutes after they order, they have the password and have been sent to the download page.

    Thanks.
I was searching the web for advice on blogging as a business when I came across you Dave just today. And I downloaded the Blueprint- I must admit that it was exactly the one i was looking for.
I havent finished reading it yet as i am going slow ,it simply is the best on the subject. Thanks for the excellent work.It gives enough confidence to anyone.
    I have a broad question:
I am planning to start a health related blogg,of course business oriented. What could be the subcatogories which are doing good within that particular segment? Are there some which fair better than others? And how to drive traffic into the site?
    Thanks again.
  • Larry
This is my second question, I hope that's ok. I no not have a product to sell, I offer a service. Are the rules different? Do I need a product?
  • Curious2learn
Thanx David for offering this oppertunity to ask questions. I have series of questions taht are inter related.
How to build a team of bloggers in START of a blog? When i see some new blog with new blogger and observe that they have a team of bloggers, i wonder how they retain such team of blogger? Are they get paid? If yes, it means that in start of blog, we need to invest some good money. Or this team of blogger get paid after success of blog and when that blog start generating income from blogging. please tell me in detail.
  • Do you have any suggestions on when a blogger should form an LLC? And here's a slightly more specific question, with Legal Zoom, does their LLC service include everything that you need to operate in Florida, IE business lic., etc. Really feeling overwhelmed with all the steps to make everything official.
  • All In One SEO

Should you no index tags? Categories? How do you make is so davidrisley.com/page32 does not rank in the serps. Talk about some On page tactics that help bloggers.
  • Hi, Dave, thanks for doing this for us. I've got 2 Qs for you.

    1. How do you, personally, come up w ideas for products/services to sell/ and ways to monetize your blog? I've noticed that the field of blogging is getting somewhat saturated with the same product's and services. For instance, so many bloggers have an ebook to sell and not much beyond that. Of course some have much more than that, but do you forsee a lot of bloggers branching out into providing more products and services, and how do we as bloggers become more creative in coming up w fresh ideas? Sometimes I feel we are all copying one another...

    2. What do you consider your biggest obstacles in blogging?

  • I have a new blog, www.newcottagebusiness.com. I've read six figure blueprint--very helpful. Two questions: 1. You are big on Twitter. I'm having trouble knowing what to talk about there. I don't want to just b.s... what strategy could I use to create conversation? 2. I'm on Twitter as AnneOverson (I follow you BTW and also subscribe to your blog by another email address) , thinking that it's easier to get people to follow me as an individual, build rapport, and then later develop an I.D. on Twitter as "The New Cottage Business" and convert people who've been following me for awhile. Does that seem like the way to go, or -? Thanks for doing the webinar!
  • Hi David! Thank you for doing this. My question is a bit elementary maybe. Does your blog have to be about a continuous theme? I have tried blogging, but I tell you, I can't hold one train of thought very long and do the same thing over and over. I have a craft/art business called A.D.D. Creative for the same reason! How tight must that theme be and can it deviate occasionally. And when it deviates, how good is it to reveal a "human factor" to the readership?
  • I started my Wordpress.com blog as http://www.carlaspacher.com/wordpress.com then switched it through purchasing a Wordpress.com url http://carlapspacher.com. Now my blog has turned into a gluten free recipe site with health tips.

    Questions:
    1. If I redirect the blog to something like www.glutenfree-carla.com will it hurt my SEO ratings in any way?

    Thanks so much!
    Carla
  • Larry
My question would be the same as Gabriel's. I am new to blogging, and I would like to hear your advise on how to use social media to attract fans to my blog, build a relationship, and convert them into clients.
  • Batman
My quickest question would be, as effectively a startup, what should the first steps that you should take be? I've got my social media infrastructure in place, I think, so, how should I launch a new blog, that would be successful? I'll have to take your answer off the air, as I have softball practice this evening. Thanks!!!
  • As a blogger (or anybody working online for that matter) I understand the importance of using your own name as your domain. What if the time comes and you want to sell the content you have been producing for another party to take over?

People visiting DavidRisley.com, JohnChow.com or DarrenSingleton.com want to view posts written by that specific person. Have you any advice as to what can be done in this situation?

    Thanks,
    Darren
  • I'm an "old dog" trying to learn new tricks. I have a several-hundred person mailing list and about 150 on my facebook friends list. I've posted and emailed "please read my blog" notes, but no one does. How do I effectively drive people from the mailing list (without spamming) to the blog to collect "legitimate" email addresses?
  • Carol, can you clarify something? Where did you get the list you have now? The fact that you you want to send them to the blog to get "legitimate" addresses makes me think your list was purchased or something.
  • bradfordshimp
    Hey David,

I would like to hear some tips on finding affiliates and establishing good relationships with them (to sell my products). What are the best ways to make it win-win and how should I initially contact people?

    Thanks!
  • Thanks. My question is: Do you think the future of blogging business in the next 3 years will be completely different from its present now? It's important to keep always the leading position and to forsee the trends before they happen, just like in a stock exchange.. So what's your early advice David?
  • Stephen
Love your popup can you share the code or plugin with us?
  • Meg
I've got a couple that hopefully you can get to, David. :)

First one -- Is a blog doomed when a niche has a few huge players and many little ones, even with a very unique point of view? (I've been writing as more of an entertainment blog, but I'm slowly gravitating to more inclusion of a topic that will set me up for creating products.)

Second one -- When starting a newsletter, is it better to have a weekly, biweekly or monthly newsletter? I imagine weekly would be smaller, biweekly mid-sized and a fairly nice monthly newsletter. Is there anything that says one is better than the other, or is it fine to have a set schedule and then consistently deliver on that schedule? (Or are people even *that* sensitive to changes in scheduling?)

Hopefully you can help me with that a bit, I'm looking forward to the webinar! I'm making the time for it. :)
  • Hi Dave,

Thanks for the free webinar. Much appreciated!
I have two questions I'd like to hear your thoughts about.

    1. As an entrepreneur you own PCMech and you blog professionally at DavidRisley.com. How do you manage to run both businesses at the same time? I am asking because my main activity is running my consulting firm and I have recently started a blog for solo entrepreneurs but find it quite a challenge to focus on both at the same time.
    2. You were quite positive of Reese's Outsource Force and bought the product yourself. Have you drastically changed any of your business processes since? Which practical advice would you give to someone who is considering outsourcing some activities of their online business.

    Thanks,

    Ivan
  • 1. Our concept of "blog for money" is based on Sharing our ongoing Travels and the fact that we think others may pay to help us along. We already have a website and Twitter & Facebook accounts. I like the idea of linking to multiple social-networking and video sites that I believe I can manage. What else do you recommend?
  • David,

I run a blog about a professional football team. I've heard you talk about developing products and how this can be the best way to make money through your blog. For sites like mine, where developing a product isn't as straight forward as it is for other sites, what is the best method of monetization?

    Hallo David,

The reason I follow you is because I’m thinking of an english/dutch blog.
    I’m from the Netherlands.
Are you, or do you know if there is someone in your Blog Masters Club interested in writing newsartikels like a journalist?

    For instance:
This week I spoke to someone of the dutch dredge company in the Netherlands about the disaster of the oil in the Gulf of Mexico. He told me that the dutch dredge company is going to Mexico to disolve te problem in another way: Seperate oil from water and sand.
Today I heard on the dutch news that the Dutch dredging company is going to help.

Another possibility is to follow some persons or things in the USA, which can be important for the Netherlands (or Europe) or the other way round.

I prefer short blogs with interesting news for everybody.
This is what I’m thinking. I don’t know exactly how to realize that and how to realize it in a financial way.

    Kind regards,
    Catty
  • You just gotta get out there and promote for writers. I don't know of anybody in Blog Masters specifically looking for that kind of thing, no.
  • james
What is the best back linking method to use this year for blogs with most valuable content for users ?
  • Hello David. Thank you for conducting a webinar for us. Just want you to know that the link for "right here" in http://www.davidrisley.com/rsvp/ points to http://stuff/.

Anyway, here's a question that I would like to ask you. If I were to get a blogger to promote my product launch, what is the best way to do it and what to avoid?
  • Fixed that earlier. Whoops. :-)
  • Do you use article submitter softwares and if yes, which one is the best?
  • How are you using your new iPad? Work, Play, Blogging etc.. iPad apps that you can't live without etc..

What do you do when you are not blogging, talking about blogging or blogging about blogging?

If I had to choose 1 conference event to go to this year related to blogging which one should I go to? Which events are you going to this year?
  • How much money have you made this year so far? How come you don't do monthly income reports like every other blogger? Who is your #1 blogging mentor?
  • Tomas
    Thanks, David

I'm sold on the adviseability of using Video.

But, my question is what's the best Video recorder to use--for both recording Video and Audio?

I've heard a whole lot about FLIP HD cameras--but have heard countless negative comments about trouble with uploading AND that the recording of audio is less than acceptable.

What do YOU recommend and use?

I'm sure many bloggers have the same question.

    Thanks,

    Tomas
  • Gabriel Collignon
Hi Dave, thank you very much for this opportunity!

There are many sites that talk about starting a blog and blah, blah, I read your Blueprint and I think that really is valuable, along with other information you have. Many just talk but they really don't give you the step by step guide.

There are many out there just like me that can start a blog (I mean technically) and maybe start writing about our passions and trying to really deliver value in everything we write. But how do you get the readers? And what' do you think is the most valuable tip to convert those readers into clients.
  • Thanks, Gabriel. I'll definitely talk about this, because this is probably one of the most common questions I get.
  • Ken
Traffic...good traffic...where do I find...what do I do with it and how do I keep it and enhance it...I know, simple stuff for you, but frustrating for me!
  • My website xdaThemes.com is having a weird issue right now. One of my post http://www.xdathemes.com/icons/simplified-black-windows-phone-style-iconset/ is saying "Error establishing database error" while all other posts are opening fine.

What could be the possible reason?
  • Seems to be working for me.
  • Yeah, I cleared my page cache & it worked. Seems it was probably serving cached copy of the post. But I didn't understood how it got that "Error" page cached.
  • I hate that I will likely be on the way home from class, but going to RSVP in case we get lucky enough to get out early. Hope to see you there!
  • 2AM is a little too early for me, but I'll be there in spirit!
  • Sounds great Dave, as usual you make yourself available and approachable to the average Joe (or Keith), I will try to make the Webinar, I usually have a Twitter chat during that time, but maybe I can peek in for a bit....
