10 Business Ideas That Cannot Fail

This is a guest post by Joshua Noerr.

If you have been reading David’s blog for any length of time, you know how important it is to think of your blog as a business, if blogging for dollars is the goal. Where most people have trouble with this is finding a business that will be profitable and providing either a product or service that people will want to buy.

If you find yourself in this camp, I have composed a little list that will help jump start your business and get you going. I absolutely promise that these ideas will work.

  1. Cure cancer.
  2. Invent a car that runs on good intentions.
  3. Invent a chemical weapon that will end all war without killing anyone.
  4. Solve the healthcare “crisis”.
  5. Create a search engine that knows what you want to search for before you do.
  6. Invent a doughnut that will cause you to lose weight and get in shape.
  7. Invent a time machine.
  8. Create a religion.
  9. Cure baldness.
  10. Invent a way for TSA to keep us safe on planes without “touching our junk”.

OK, obviously, this little list is tongue in cheek. It’s meant to make you smile and maybe laugh a little bit, but there are some important lessons buried in them. Let’s break them down.

1. “Cure” Always Outsells “Prevention”

People will be much more motivated to buy a product or service that solves a problem they know they have. Preventing a problem that they could have in the future may get some people motivated to buy, but it is a much more difficult pitch.

People have problems, they will always have problems, and they want solutions to them. Pain is one of the greatest motivators behind purchases. It is much easier to find a problem a group of people have and offer a solution, than to come up with a product and try to invent the problem that it solves. Problems are all around you. Chances are if you are complaining about something, other people have the same complaint. Solve that complaint and it could be very lucrative for you.

2. People Want Results Without Effort

There are two great examples of this principle – the health and fitness industry, and the “make money online” industry.

Health and fitness gimmicks that promise results in “5 minutes a day, three days a week” fly off the shelves.

More and more products claiming to be “turn key money machines” are showing up every day (just do a quick search through Clickbank if you don’t believe me).

If your product or service can provide the results that people want, and allow them to get them with minimal effort, you have stumbled upon gold. A word of caution here though: you really have to provide the results. If you make promises that you can’t keep, you won’t be around very long. There is an old saying, “Under promise, and over deliver.” I tend to agree with the author T. Harv Eker when he said, “Over promise, and over deliver on that!”

Make your prospects an offer they can’t refuse, then over deliver on what you offered.

3. What Worked Yesterday Won’t Work Today

Ten years ago, people didn’t care about airport security. Things changed.

Healthcare was not nearly the concern it is today in 1950. Things changed.

We didn’t worry about the fossil fuels running our cars in 1960. Things changed.

The rapid nature of change in our lives today presents us with only two options: we can complain about it, or we can profit from it! New opportunities will be popping up every day. If you have a sharp eye, and you pay attention to the world around you, these opportunities will present themselves. Stop complaining about the way things are changing and start seeing all of the change as your golden opportunity to make a difference, and make a living.

Your Time Is Now

Business has changed, and will continue to do so at a dizzying pace. How will you react? Will you bury your head in the sand, pretending you can’t see it? Or will you have your eyes and ears wide open to receive all of the opportunities coming your way?

At first, I think that this is a humorous post but I realized that it shows the truth of life we have today. It’s a reality today that many wanted to earn money online fast without working themselves persistently towards their goal. I learn that making money online is not a get-rick-quick scheme but rather a slow, gradual and long-term.

Well done, sir. On point #8, that one is actually possible. See L. Ron Hubbard. :)

    Hey Joshua:

You got me on this one. I read the first item and was like, what???, then I read the second item and it hit me—ha! ha! ha!

I enjoyed the post and appreciate your lessons.

Things are constantly changing. It would be nice to be proactive for a change instead of reactive.

    Take care!

Cure definitely outsells prevention. Everything we see on those late-night infomercials are pitched as “cures” for problems, not “prevention” of problems.

The fact that people want results without is serving to be true. I provide a local community site where local experts can blog, do webinars, etc. and have found it challenging for some to create content. I figured out that instead of trying to get others to join and post content that aren’t already in the mode of creating content that I would just go after those that already publish, but just need more traffic, tools, etc.

So I feel that sometimes we just have to adjust who we are trying to get as clients before we adjust our product/service. Good example – if you are a gym, instead of trying to recruit lazy out-of-shape people, spend your time promoting to those that you know already work out, but want a better overall experience.

Great post David! Look forward to reading the others.

Okay, I just read the part where you said ‘Cure Baldness’ and found myself inexplicably attracted to this post :)

Great points you’ve shared, here, it’s true that business ideas keep changing from time to time. The best we can do is look for solid ideas and establish a good target audience so that we can tap into the market at the right time.

Wow! What a list. Funny but some of them are very true!

Wow! this is innovative. I like how metaphorical those examples and explanations are.
