A Word On Gratitude
This week, we celebrate Thanksgiving (at least here in the U.S.). For many, it is just a day to relax and abuse ourselves nutritionally. Others, however, remember the meaning of the day. It is…
Thanks. Giving.
A day to express thankfulness and gratitude for the people and things in our lives. It is a great concept, of course, but it has a problem… it is only one day. I strongly believe that one of the core fundamentals of true success is a routine and heartfelt expression of gratitude. It shouldn’t be just one day…. it should be a daily habit.
The Fear Of Selling Out, And The Blogger Code Of Monetization
Are you afraid to make money with your blog?
Might seem like a really weird question… one that you would think the answer to is pretty obvious. You’re thinking “no”, right?
Well, let me ask you this… Are you afraid to sell things on your blog because of a fear of selling out, pissing off your audience, or somehow sacrificing your integrity?
If you answered “yes” or “maybe”, then we need to look at that. Because that self-imposed barrier is keeping you from success and it needs to be demolished.
Time To Kick Ass And Think Bigger
Judging from that headline, you might think I’m sitting here feeling totally PUMPED!
Well, yes and no. Truthfully, I’m sitting in my hotel room in Scottsdale, AZ right now, at Jeff Walker’s Product Launch Formula LIVE event. I’m conferenced out and I’m beat. Last week, I was in Vegas for Blogworld Expo. Then I went home to Florida for 3 days, only to fly BACK out here for this event….
I’ve talked to a LOT of people. And I’m beat. I’m actually kind of an introvert, and daddy needs to recharge. And I can’t do that in large crowds. So, I’m sitting in my room and I might just thaw out in here tonight rather than hit the bar.
But…
I’m frickin’ PUMPED anyway. For the future. And I’ll tell you why…
Hate Mondays? [Something Sad on Twitter]
I saw something sad on Twitter this morning. The #7 trending topic was “Hate Mondays”. How sad is that? The way I see it, one has two choices in life: Grab life by the horns and make it the way you want. Bitch, moan, and whine and basically act like a little idiot about it. [...]
The #1 Fear that Keeps Bloggers from True Success
This is a guest post by Nathan Hangen.
Bombs? What Bombs?
In August of 2008, just days after I’d arrived in Kabul, Afghanistan, our house was rocked by an explosion near the embassy, which was just several blocks away. Considering we were all asleep and had just arrived in country, we all jumped up with a “WTF?” expression on our face, and upon learning that the rocket attack was over, went back to bed.
Months later, I signed up for a 5K race at the embassy and at the last minute, decided to sleep in and skip the race (hey, it was 6AM!). Turns out that was a good decision, as there was an attack on the complex that day too.
“Red Clay” Outsourcing – Why Pay Someone When You Can Do It Yourself?
This is a guest post by Dave Doolin.
David invited me to write an article about my “red clay” perspective on outsourcing.
First, a disclaimer: I’ve outsourced around 6 figures worth of work in the last 4 years, over $90,000 in 2008 alone. I’m a big believer in getting the right help for the job, and I’ve put my money where my mouth is. But I’m also a huge believer in self-reliance and just “getting it done.” That said, let’s get on with it.
Most of what I read about outsourcing in the blogging community is well-meaning, and not exactly incorrect, but it is incomplete. It seems mostly about the excellence of outsourcing: “Profit! Riches! Yes! Outsource! Outsource! Rah rah rah!” While I agree in principle, this irrational ebullience is a little short on specifics. And the specifics are where it really matters.
Is Blogging Success Kinda Like X-Files?
The truth is out there.
But, “they” don’t want you to find it.
Those two sentences more or less sum up the jist of the Fox hit show, The X-Files. Mulder and Scully, out there in a search for the truth. Funny, that word “truth”. As if it is some far-flung thing that we can’t quite grasp. Yet, the famous “they”…. well, they get it. But, they want to keep it to themselves.
Funnily enough, the X-Files show even had a secret group called “The Syndicate”. These were the guys who formed a cabal in the U.S. government to keep the conspiracy under wraps. They were the bad guys. Ironic title for the group, given the recent uproar over the so-called internet marketing “syndicate”, with Frank Kern as the supposed gang leader. Is Kern the smoking man?
The Shallow Pride Of Being Overwhelmed
I had a thought. Yeah, it happens every now and then.
See, the other day I was talking to somebody. This person was in the advertising business. This means she saw a lot of clients and was busy. VERY busy. We’re talking 15+ hour days. Sitting in the office until 2AM. Sometimes up and at it by 4AM.
Overwhelm. No time. Busy.
These days, people seem to wear the “overwhelm” badge with pride and I don’t know why.
6 Success Principles Which Will Help You Achieve Anything You Want
I recently wrote a piece about the two Circles Of Life and how which one is chosen will really dictate the level of success you see in life. I got a lot of AWESOME comments on that post. I read every single one and I’m really glad the post resonated with so many of you.
Today, I want to eleborate on the six points that I stated briefly at the end of that post. These are six principles which, I believe, stand as common traits of the successful. When you talk to successful people or read auto-biograhies from well known entrepreneurs and CEOs, you very often see these 6 things in play.
Let’s address them one by one.
The Circles Of Life – Which Are You On?
So, I was cleaning out my office this last weekend. I decided to do some minimization and get rid of some pending to-do items sitting around the room. So, I tackled a pile of notes sitting in my “someday” pile.
On one of the many pads of paper sitting there, I found some notes I had taken in San Diego at Frank Kern’s event last year. I went through it and got some nice little reminders. But, one of the sheets had something that I remember Frank talking about. And at the time I remember thinking, “This stuff comes before any online success can be had and is so important”.
So, today, I bring you my interpretation of the concept. I’ll just call it “The Circles Of Life”. There are two of them, and we all need to make a personal decision which one we will live on.
Hey, I'm David. Dont' know where to start? No worries. Let me help you get started.
