When Comments Begin To HURT Your Blogging Success [VIDEO]

Yesterday, I got a Backtype notification of my name being used in a comment on somebody else’s blog. What I found was a post and a comment thread which seemed to be a little resentful toward professional bloggers, specifically calling out Problogger (Darren Rowse) and John Chow.

The post is: Why I No Longer Link To The Likes Of ProBlogger And John Chow.

The gripe? They don’t reply to comments on their own blog.

Today, I thought I’d do something a bit different and just post a video. So, I tested out Youtube’s ability to record a video direct to the web. Here we go…

What Do You Think?

Do you expect replies from bloggers when you post a comment? Do you get offended when they don’t reply?

And, do you agree or disagree with me when I say that engaging in conversation has to be taken up to a point, but at a certain point it becomes a hindrance to your success?

Let me know!

The Power of Giving – Azim Jamal

This is a super quick little video interview I did with Azim Jamal, the author of The Power of Giving. This interview was done in Orlando, at Izeafest.

Hope you enjoy. I tell ya one thing, this video makes me look like a damn whale. I should call Jenny Craig.

Hello From Las Vegas

Just getting started here in Las Vegas for BlogWorld. This video would have been up sooner, but wifi issues delayed it. So, I went to a tweetup and talked to a lot of great folks. More on that later.

Tony Robbins, John Reese, Frank Kern On The Power of You [Video]

I watched this video by Tony Robbins this morning (with John Reese and Frank Kern) and I thought it had a really powerful message. I wanted to pass it onto you.

View the original video on Tony Robbin’s site.

I see so many people who act as their own worse enemy. They have all the tools for their success, but they run into one huge barrier that they don’t even see as a barrier – THEMSELVES. The power of the mind is more vast than any of us really realize. The mind, and we as spirits, have power over the world of the physical. Even if it doesn’t seem that way, it is true. And I think that this video by Tony Robbins really speaks to that sentiment.

What do you think of the video?

Mastermind Wisdom Video

Many of my regular readers might know that I am the organizer of a Tampa Bay area mastermind meetup. The idea behind the group is to serve as a central group for internet entrepreneurs to get together and trade ideas and help others. Then, if they want, they can use the larger group to form smaller, more private mastermind groups.

Our last meetup was on Tuesday night and it went quite well. We went around the room and each talked briefly about what they do. I found that at least half the attendees were aspiring internet entrepreneurs, so I opened up the meeting to questions so that those of us more experienced can help those trying to get started.

My friend, Tony Teegarden, brought his Flip Video (as he usually does) and filmed some of the guys talking. You’ll see me in the background tweeting something on the Iphone and generally looking weird. ;) Here is the video:

Tony wrote up a great written post to go along with this video that expounds on several points. Worth the read. Read 5 Steps to Creating Cash.

Our Crazy Mastermind Meeting [Video]

Thursday night, I drove over to Tampa for our bi-weekly mastermind meeting. It’s just a group of guys who are in Internet business and we get together for “shop talk”. We bounce ideas off one another, discuss strategies for our businesses, and yes, goof around a little bit. Here is my video:

At the meeting (again):

Making money online, however you choose to do that, can be an isolating business. Not only do you often work from home, but often the people around you have no idea what you’re doing for a living. You can’t talk about work because the people around you simply don’t understand. So, getting together with like-minded people is great because you can bounce ideas off of people who actually know what the hell you’re talking about.

Besides, surrounding yourself with other success-minded people often can breed success in your own life.

And this is yet another reason I have chosen to expand the concept here in the Tampa Bay area with my own Meetup group.

Obama Gave Me a Guilt Trip [Video]

I was reading this story about President-Elect Obama. All of a sudden, this wave of guilt came over me. If a man running for President (soon to be so) can work out six days per week, what the hell is wrong with me? As if being a blogger is more work than being the commander-in-chief?

Thanks for the inspiration, Obama. We’ll see if it’s short-lived. :)

Being Interviewed By My Wife [Video]

My wife, Malika, is spending more time now on her new blog. She interviewed me using her Flip Video and threw the video up on Youtube. She is interviewing me about the topic of being self-employed, and she asks questions that, quite frankly, you need to be a wife to ask. :)

We were driving at the time, so I don’t look at the camera too often. But, behold:

The questions she asked brought to mind some interesting thoughts. I will post follow-up posts here on this blog with my thoughts throughout the week. So, stay tuned!

For now, be sure to go subscribe to Malika Risley (that’s my wife).

Searching For The Bad Economy

While trying to find a place to park at the mall today, something dawned on me. So, I pulled out my Flip Video…

Searching For The Bad Economy from David Risley on Vimeo.

There are two choices, as I see it:

  1. Watch the news, be sold the idea that everything is doom and gloom, and then react accordingly by reducing spending, worrying and being unhappy.
  2. Look around, realize little has changed, and get busy working to create your own success such that your own economy isn’t dependent on such things.

I think you know which choice I made. What about you?

On a related note, here’s a good reason to ignore the stock market.

Flight Over Florida [Video]

This weekend, my wife and I went up to visit my Dad in central Florida. He lives close by the Villages (yeah, you probably remember that corny song from the TV commercials). As you can see from my last post, he lives in an airport community. Well, later that day, we decided to take a quick flight out over the Villages. I took my Flip Video with me so I could share it with you guys:

Almost makes me think of a cool idea for a traveling blogger. If you’re a private pilot with a plane, you could do some really cool video blogging. Especially if you fly quite a bit.
