How To Easily Create A Video Gallery On Your Blog

One of the great ways of driving traffic to your blog(s) is through the use of online video. Our videos on the PCMech Youtube channel are a steady source of traffic to the site. It just works.

Now, I could get into a whole thing about how to optimize videos on Youtube and get more video views, but I’ll leave that for another day. What about bringing your videos to your blog?

You can embed your Youtube videos on your blog posts. This is certainly the most common way it is done and, of course, I recommend doing so. However, there is value in having a “one stop shop” for your videos on the blog.

I’ve had several people ask me how I set up the Videos page here on DavidRisley.com. The answer is brain-dead simple.

TubePress.

Just a simple WordPress plug-in. And while he does offer a “Pro” version for $25/year, the free version will be more than enough for almost everybody.

The plug-in works with both Youtube and Vimeo.

So, why something like this rather than simply relying on the standard video embed?

  • It looks cool as hell. :)
  • It helps some of your best videos stand out rather than getting lost in the archives of your blog.
  • It allows your readers to browse your videos without the need to leave your blog and go to Youtube.com.

Now, obviously you have to send them to Youtube.com in order or get them to subscribe to your Youtube channel, right?

Actually, Youtube has a subscribe widget that not too many people seem to know about. (I just recently found it myself, actually). Just add this code somewhere on your blog:

<iframe id="fr" src="http://www.youtube.com/subscribe_widget?p=add YouTube Username here" style="overflow: hidden; height: 105px; width: 300px; border: 0;" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0"></iframe>

You’ll get something like this:

So, now they can both view videos and subscribe to your channel, without leaving your blog.

From there, all you have to do is make some videos. :) (I’m looking in the mirror as I say that. ;) )

Most people are using this plugin and mainly because people can watch their videos and stay on their site at the same time.

    I really appreciate it.

You know, I asked you about this a month or two ago. Thanks to the post I just did it. It was lickity split easy! I’ve got a videos tab at the top now of my menu bar now. I’ll be keeping an eye on “stickiness” and see if it helps with keeping people on the site longer and more engaged.

And I didn’t do this sooner why? haha Thanks brother!

Hey, this is great info. I have started building up videos on my site as well. Unfortunately, not all are YouTube or Vimeo, but come from another source. But I may see how I can use this plugin. Thanks!

Thanks!  Amazing how you can come across cool new stuff on a regular basis in this biz.  My challenging is resisting the “discovery” phase and focusing on execution :)

David- Thanks for the plugin suggestion.  I was actually one of those people who wondered how you went about creating a video page like that.

I did try the iFrame widget a few weeks back, but it came out really distorted looking.  You reminded me that I have to go back and play around with it some more.

    Thanks!

Yes I do agree with you. No one has a time to go through
article that’s why people prefer watching video than reading articles.
