Project Update: Launch Drama :-)

Well, I did my last project update two weeks ago. It was supposed to be a weekly affair, but the last couple weeks haven’t exactly been normal. :)

Unless you’ve been under a rock, you’ve no doubt seen that I have been in full-out “marketing mode” for the last couple weeks. All of it to pull off the second relaunch of the Blog Masters Club.

The prelaunch began back on the 15th with the re-release of the Blueprint report. The prelaunch progressed up to the culmination, which was the webinar I did on the 25th. I had 403 people attend the webinar, with probably 100 sitting on Ustream as well. We’re getting ready to end off on Day 3 of the launch itself.

So far, things are going very well. The ranks of the Blog Masters Club have swelled immensely, and this launch has already FAR outpaced the last time I launched it.

The Other Side of A Product Launch

Everything is going extremely well, but anybody who has ever done a product launch can attest to this fact: It is STRESSFUL.

As I said on Twitter earlier today:

Running a product launch is like hanging onto the side of a moving car, with one hand, and with your "package" dangling in the wind. ;-)

And it is true. You never feel totally on top of things. You constantly feel as if you’re just BARELY keeping up. The sheer volume of email I’ve been getting has been overwhelming. I’ve had a couple people say I should have my VA handle that, but I guess I’m old-school in thinking that people would rather have ME reply. After all, anybody who is going to buy a course which is 30 hours of my instruction probably wants a personal touch from the dude who designed the course, right? So, I’ve been doing all the email myself.

The Blog Masters forums have also been heating up like crazy (obviously) so I’m trying to help all the new students.

Plus, you can’t do any kind of product launch without naysayers. I’ve had a few people try to bust my bubble. I’ve been called a scammer by a few emailers. Another guy is trying to raise his traffic by name-dropping me and saying how disappointing my webinar was. I swear, I even had an email LITERALLY telling me I was going to go to hell because I’m making money online.

When you do a large-scale product launch, you open yourself up. You’re getting a lot of attention you don’t normally get, and that opens you up to a lot of great stuff, but also a little tiny bit of negativity.

At the end of the day, I let it roll off the back. You have to. It is an unfortunate fact of this business that when you stick your head above the crowd, somebody will try to shoot it off. And, when it comes to anything in the “make money” market, the moment you try to sell something, a few will demonize.

To top it off, today we had a massive boo-boo with the affiliate tracking and we’re literally having to contact every single person who has signed up for the Club to find out who referred them so we can make sure it is accurate. That is NOT fun.

Product Launches Are Awesome

Nothing worth doing in life is easy.

If you find yourself too comfortable, you’re probably not doing something right.

So, I must say, I’m just a hair outside my comfort level these days. :) And that’s a good thing. I don’t care WHO you are, product launches are full of drama, ups and downs, and stress. But, the payoff is huge and it is one HELL of a way to conduct business.

Any blogger who wants to build presence should consider a product launch. Obviously, it’ll look different in other markets, but the principles behind a launch could work in other markets just the same. I’ve done internal launches to my PCMech crowd before and it worked, too.

Blog Masters Club

Since I’m still in launch mode, here is the update:

The doors are closing on Tuesday, Feb 2nd. The monthly price will remain as it is now. The up-front price is going to be increased tonight by $10.00. I’m going to increase it slowly until the doors close. The price is, quite frankly, too low right now for what this course is worth, and I’m going to increase it until I’m charging what it is worth.

As soon as those doors close, I’m going to be in touch with all new students and we’ll have our first group coaching call very soon as a sort of orientation.

If you want to be in the second class, you need to act very soon.

Click here to enjoy my super-duper sales page. Don’t break your scroll wheel. ;) But, you’ll learn a lot about me and, of course, the Club. Plus, I’ve got a video there if you don’t like scrolling. :)

Soon, we’ll get back to the normal schedule here. Thanks for being there, guys. You rock.

Your doing a great job. If I hadn't already graduated from the BMC, I'd pay for the course again!

I've stumbled across some of your haters. Knowing you in person and from taking the course, it kind of amazes what people will say about you.

  • http://nathanhangen.com/blog Nathan Hangen

Dude, you're the man. I've got your back, not because we're pals, but because you're doing good shit. As you know, Mike and I just went through the same thing, although probably on a lesser scale…it's sheer brutality the way some people treat you.

I learned a hard lesson that week, and it's to spend more time with the customers and less time with the haters. I still haven't mastered that, but I'm trying.

    Keep leading the way.

I nominate this for tweet of the year!! ;) “Running a product launch is like hanging onto the side of a moving car, with one hand, and with your “package” dangling in the wind.” I still haven't stopped laughing.

    Thanks dude.

Yeah, its true, though. You ever been on a treadmill which is going too fast? You just KNOW you're going to fall on your ass, but you keep running to try to save your dignity? That's a product launch. :-)

David, it sounds like even though it nutz your still having a great time. Glad to here it is going well for you. Also like that you respond personally to new members quality move like your style.

  • http://davidrisley.com David Risley

Yeah. Well, I just drink more coffee. :-)

He who has success will be tarnished by those who can't figure it out. And the rest of us go on to build success, not submit to the problems.

Unfortunately, that's life. The sooner we figure it out and move on, the better.

Just shows how hard it is to do the right thing for people. People don't have a clue as to their own self-interest and attack. They don't get that what they are attacking is what they need. Sigh.

I've never been involved in a product launch, but I've witnessed a few. It seems to be a lot of work and a lot of fun (at least when people are joining and it's going rather well).

I've been wondering, why are you closing the doors on this one on 2nd of February? Is it part of a strategy (scarcity)? Because online, it should be fairly unlimited capacity for an online course?

  • http://jimijones.com/ Jimi Jones

    Hey David,
You are continuing to educate us by providing this inside look at a product launch, something people should have an appreciation for. I think you've done a hellava job with the whole deal.

The negativity only serves to let you know that you are being successful, which some in society never like to see. It's the left-handed compliment.

BMC is a winner and you know that. Keep on keepin' on, dude. :-)

Going to Hell for making money on the Internet? Wow… I've read the bible several times and I'm absolutely certain there's not 1 verse that says anything about going to Hell if you make money online… not even in Revelation… So David, I think you're going to be alright…

To the person who wrote that email: It's not very Christian to Damn or tell a person they are going to Hell for any reason…

  • http://davidrisley.com David Risley

Primarily because we do coaching calls throughout the course and I want the students to be mostly on the same page when we do those calls. If I have people coming into the Club constantly, then everybody is on different parts of the course and the Q&A on the calls ends up being all over the place.

Sure, the scarcity helps in marketing, but I wouldn't do that if I didn't have an underlying reason.

  • http://davidrisley.com David Risley

    Thanks, Jimi. :-)

  • http://www.slymarketing.com Jens P. Berget

I didn't know about the coaching. I understand why you'd want the students to be mostly on the same page. It's like any college then, people start at the same time. That's probably also a lot easier for the students, when it comes to Q&A's and discussion on the forums.

I agree wholeheartedly that it is. In fact I've done it twice with my info products and do take note thats only info products. I can't really imagine the work that needs to be done especially when it is a membership site.

    G'luck man

  • http://davidrisley.com David Risley

I'm not worried. Honestly, I don't think the guy had all his screws in place. The email was one long run-on sentence, full of grammar errors. A nightmare to read, but what I said above was pretty much his point. Gave me a laugh. :-)

  • http://davidrisley.com David Risley

Yeah, it has to do with scale, plus whether you have affiliates or not. When you're working with other people, your butt is more on the line to make it work.

  • aaronmielke

    David,

If you weren't getting negative feedback, you wouldn't be doing anything.

You've got an awesome product, you're providing first class personal service, and I know that my membership to the BMC is going to catapult me to success.

That's all you can ask for.

  • http://www.theblogview.com/ AskJamesHumphrey.com

David your all over the place with this bud. I've seen it all through the social media site and affiliates alike. Keep up the good work and as Master P says….Just Brush those haters off and watch your money pile up.

Keep producing such great content and its just the people mad because they didn't think of it.

  • TheInfoPreneur

David, Holy cow you have been through the rinser lately.

That said just look at it this way, McDonalds get slated all day every day, every had a blockbuster movie bad mouthing them.

When you're at the top your going to get shot at, but people like you brother have a huge amount of support, your own private army. You are made of stearn stuff dude, keep it up

  • http://davidrisley.com David Risley

    Thanks dude.

  • Kyra

It's a shame to hear that there are people out there who are trying to “burst your bubble”. However, the grace with which you are handling that criticism is an example of why I'm so proud to call myself your student! Keep up the good work and the positive attitude. You have a lot to offer to those of us who are smart enough to listen!

  • http://www.beachbettypr.com beachbettypr

Wow, David sorry to hear about the haters. I guess they are always there though. That's probably my biggest challenge–not letting that stuff get to me.

Just my two cents, I thought the course was awesome! I was a little skeptical the first month, simply because you've got so many people out there trying to sell you ways to make money online. But it really gave me the insight I needed to get my business off the ground. And boy is it ever.

You know you are providing value and there's nothing wrong with charging for what something is worth. You're awesome.

You definitely have some great things going for you so enjoy the success you have in helping other people. Don't worry about who might not like what you do. They either do not understand what you do completely or just are scared you're taking some of the fame they could have.

Keep kicking butt and doing what you do, man! :)

    Re-Tweeting now. :)

Hey David, No pain no gain right…..?? At least your one of the guys out there who knows that he'll have a successful product. Imagine the amount of people that launch a product that just doesn't make an impact.

I know you'll be smiling (if your not already)
