My Gratitude…. To You

Today, I want to extend upon my post from yesterday about gratitude. Today and tomorrow, I want to do a couple of gratitude posts on the blog. Today, I’ll talk business. Tomorrow, I’ll get personal.

I find it utterly amazing to be able to do what it is that I do, and there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t feel gratitude for that.

Last week, I was invited to be interviewed in front of a local internet marketing group here in the Tampa area. I had around 25 people show up, some driving as much as 50 miles, just to come see me be interviewed. In the process, I had this guy raining all kinds of kudos down on me. It was weird, in all honesty.

I recently had the opportunity to speak at Blogworld, and to hang out with some of the top bloggers on the planet. The week after, I was in Phoenix surrounded by some of the top entrepreneurs in the country. Coming back to my local town again, I recently was able to help put together a dinner with Chris Guillebeau when he was in town for a book signing.

In short, I’m just beyond humbled that I am in the position that I am. I am routinely floored when I find out that this little thing I do from a spare bedroom of my house actually has so much influence outside of my house. I KNOW that so many others in this position feel the same way. Hell, there are a lot of people who have a LOT more influence than I do. I’m small potatoes compared to some. But, the very fact that I have it at all – amazing.

When people walk up to me at an event and already know who I am, I am still amazed. I’m not really used to it.

Really, I’m talking about you. After all, you read my blog, read my tweets, get my emails. I mean, if you guys didn’t pay any attention to what I did online, I’d be doing something completely different for a living.

It really is a huge case of irony. I mean, I was a big loner in high school. A socially inept nerd. I was afraid to wear shorts or even short sleeves for a couple years because of a fear of exposure. In a symbolic kind of way, it was actually a shield between me and the world. To fast-forward all these years and be in a business where “social” is the name of the game, where I make a living via communication and, yes, shorts and sandals are a basic staple of my existence…. MY! what a journey.

I’ve changed as a person since then. A lot of it is because of things I have done personally, while making a few leaps into the unknown and seeing that it worked out OK. But, a lot of it was fueled by the Internet. By people reading my sites. By you.

So, thanks for being there. My aim is to continue to help you guys as much as you help me.

David, you just bring so much value into your readers lives by just being real, genuine, and providing valuable content that really is geared to helping people.

This is what most bloggers fail to realize, if you lead with value instead of going into everything looking for money, you will end up making the money by just adding the value.

Try it, it works. I’m sure David could agree with me here

Amazing what happens when you provide value for people, huh? :-)

The things I like best about David are his quick wit and his sincerity. You just know what he shares is coming from who he is. As a former introvert myself, I appreciate that.

David, you are refreshingly transparent and honest. If you are getting a lot back it’s because you put a lot out. The gratitude is ours for all you offer and share. Be well, be loved, and be yourself – blessings for the journeys ahead.

    I don’t comment enough here on your blog and this is a great topic. I live down the road in Orlando and would love to have a cup of coffee some time (or a beer!) Anyway, I am doing this blogging thing part time for now and it’s slow rolling, but I can see two things;
    1. If I keep putting time in, it will turn into something.
    2. The more you just DO, the more good stuff happens

    Here’s to being grateful!
    Happy Thanksgiving

It’s often the case that the more influence in a field people have the more humble they become

It’s also important for those of us who look to you for guidance to see your feet firmly on the ground and putting something back in an industry where many live off of the lack of understanding of others instead of helping them develop

Maybe in that spirit it is important for those of us outside of the US to wish all of you a happy Thanksgiving and to say thank you to you for all the great information you give us together with the odd timely kick in the pants to keep our feet on the ground

You know, I have to say… your blog is my favorite blog, David. It’s because you’re both real and smart. Honestly, I’m trying to emulate you because you blog makes me laugh, smacks me upside the head when I need it, and gives me quick advice that is always applicable. When I need an answer about blogging or video I search your blog. I probably tweet half the posts I read on your blog. I refer all my clients to you to “see how it’s done”. You rock, David. You may have felt like the ugly duckling once but, dude, you’re a swan! Happy Thanksgiving!

Real nice post :-) Not often anyone posts their thanks to their readers. Nice one David!

I am very pleasantly surprised to find such a long stretch of expressions of gratitude on a blog about blogging. When we stop to think about it, we will all be thankful for our readers and supporters. It’s too easy not to think about it at all and either take them for granted entirely or feel sorry for ourselves for not having enough of them. So thank you for these posts!

David, your success is just bc of the very things you do — put yourself out there — make those leaps into the unknown, as you call them. You and some other probloggers I consider my mentors just for those very reasons — you teach me so much. You will not give up, you will not shelter yourself to the point of not trying to improve your life, despite what it was like when you were younger. You give me the determination to move forward in blogging and in life. So really, you should’t be thanking us, we should be the ones thank you. So I thank you…
