Is “Nano Continuity” The Future of Blogging?

I recently published a post asking whether the future of blogging was paid access. And, you know what? That post took on a life of it’s own and is probably now one of the most highly trafficked posts on this entire site.

I really had no idea when I wrote that post that it would resonate as much as it did.

One of the things I talked about in that post was how the Apple App Store is affecting the mindset in the marketplace. The small micro-payments that people are paying for apps is creating an entirely new business model – one based off of small, micro payments rather than huge ticket prices. It also resonates with people because, obviously, people like the lower prices. :)

Which brings me to the idea of “nano continuity”. Could this, indeed, be the very embodiment of what I talked about as the future of blogging?

What is Nano Continuity?

Nano = Tiny. Continuity = Monthly payments. So, you can kind of figure this out. :)

Continuity is my absolute favorite form of online business. They are easier to sell because the price is typically much lower than the typical one-time sale. At the same time, the automatic re-billing compounds over time and results in a predictable, dependable income stream.

And, isn’t that what we all want? Dependable, monthly cash flow from our work on the Internet?

Also, a model like this means you don’t have to continually keep driving one-time sales, or moving from launch to launch. You have a steady business.

So, continuity is awesome and we all pretty much realize that.

Now, let’s drop onto that what’s been happening lately with the popularization of small, impulse-driven micro-payments. I mean, today, you’ve got people making real money by selling stupid apps which make fart noises. Some of the absolute dumbest apps I’ve ever seen actually make substantial money in the App Store. Why? Because they’re fun and they’re cheap. There isn’t a soul out there that can’t afford 99 cents. :)

So, we have “nano continuity”. It it simply the idea of offering a membership program at under five bucks monthly.

Do you think you could more easily sell people on the idea of $4.99/month rather than $49.99/month? Of course, you can! Especially to an audience of typical blog readers who don’t like to pay much for things.

When you charge something like this, you’ll get more impulse buyers. You also open it up to people of all budgets. And, in terms of membership sites, you’ll get a much higher retention rate because the monthly fee isn’t something which affects their budget. The risk is much lower for everybody involved.

From the provider standpoint, it doesn’t take nearly as much work and commitment to maintain. The cash outlay is so small that you don’t have to deliver the entire kitchen sink. Sure, typical business rules apply and you want to make sure you give them more value than what they pay – but, still, we’re talking $5 or less here, so the demands aren’t high.

You also don’t have to be a super-awesome marketer. If you can’t sell something for $5, then just pack up and go home. :)

NanoContinuity – Invented by Ryan Lee

So, here’s the thing…

I’ve known about Ryan Lee for awhile now. I met him at Blogworld a couple years ago. I also attended his event in CT last year. He and I have actually hopped on the phone… I actually paid him for his time for a consultation and he helped me tremendously with my membership sites. This guy knows his stuff and he is pretty much the “go to” guru for all things continuity.

I recently listened to him speak at the Underground Seminar, and that was the first time I heard anybody utter the words “nano continuity”. My little ears perked up when I heard it because I realized what a POWERFUL concept this can be for anybody online – especially you guys.

Ryan has just launched a new product called NanoContinuity.

Now, here’s what I want you to know right off the bat:

  1. I have not yet bought this, but I am buying it – TODAY. I think this nano continuity is so cutting edge right now that I have decided to learn from the expert to do it right.
  2. In a world of 3 or 4 digit price tags for training, you can rest easy knowing that NanoContinuity only costs $37. What a frickin bargain.
  3. In a world of internet marketing douchebags, you can rest easy that Ryan is a standup guy. He is a good man with a good heart. He is also high energy and has a cool sense of humor. This guy is the real deal and I can’t recommend this dude enough.

The Big “Why”

Some may be thinking you can just set up any cheapo membership program and simply charge a small price and – BAM! – nano continuity. In that case, why buy a product from Ryan even if it is only $37?

Because – you want to learn from a dude who understands the marketing and psychology behind it.

There are “gotchas” with this. For example, you could harm your brand by low-balling the price and lowering your perceived value. So, you’ve got to understand these things – and THIS is why I am buying Ryan’s product. I understand membership sites, but there are new issues that arise with price tags this low. And I want to learn about them.

Secondly, I really think this model IS the future of blogging for bucks. Call it the “appization” of the Internet, but this whole mobile trend is going to affect the psychology of what we do on the Internet. And we best get ahead of it.

So, here’s the deal…

It is $37.

I think you need be all over this like white on rice.

I think Ryan is an awesome dude, and you’ve got nothing to worry abou. He has a money back guarantee, but come on now, it’s $37. :) Plus, knowing Ryan, you’ll get MORE than your puny investment worth back in the form of micro-payments into your bank account, every month.

So, hop on over there and check it out.

Oh, and if you do, forward your receipt to me. Because I plan to set up a little nano continuity group privately with myself and other buyers so we can all help each other apply it. And, who knows, maybe you’ll see some value to having me around as part of the group to bounce ideas off of. :)

I totally agree that the paid premium model will find a deeper groove as both marketers and customers seek to built tighter tribes. I think the web is starting to find its natural balance now – before we we’re going through a kind of Wall Street greed phase.

Now it seems that we’re getting more reductionist and becoming better organised and would prefer to pay / sell small fees to create those tribes we care about.

Kinda philosophical. need to stay off the wine.

Is this the bonus you mentioned in your email? Email seemed to indicate Ryan had bonuses but I don’t see anything on the sales page.

    Hi David

Totally agree with what you are saying. I have been following the IM’s for almost a year now, trying to learn all I can, and that is going to be the way I break into this business! Look for my receipt soon.

I think this is the first time I’ve felt ahead of the wave as a blogger. We’ve been running a nano continuity program on our travel blog since December 2009.

    Best thing we ever did.

  • http://www.itinerantentrepreneur.com/journal/ Robert Dempsey

I’ve been looking into doing something like this for quite a while so I’m going to check it out. Thanks David.

When I first started my blog, I thought to myself that there has got to be an easier way to earn money. I will check out Ryan’s new product because of the small fee of $ 37.00 and see how I can apply it to my blog. White on white reference is hilarious.

I think there’s a nano continuity app for that. Just kidding but seriously, well done.

Nice Post i Must say, I Think Nano continuity can play vital role and attract more small bloggers towards it..

  • http://davidrisley.com David Risley

Cool. Yeah, I might make some adjustments to the PCMech program in light of this. Think that market would do better with nano.

  • http://davidrisley.com David Risley

Time to take action. :-) Reading IM stuff can be paralyzing far too easily.

  • http://davidrisley.com David Risley

Think he must have updated his sales page, because they’re there now. But, yeah, the quote is my bonus.

  • http://davidrisley.com David Risley

Perhaps. I don’t think nano continuity is going to mean higher prices won’t work. It is all about that value proposition. You’ll still see plenty of higher priced programs. Pay more to get more. :-)

  • Joemerchant

Thanks. I’m almost done with the core videos. I’ve got two markets I’ll be applying this stuff. One will be easy to apply. The other could be a little trickier. Looking forward to working with others on this.

  • Peter Myers

Thanks Dave- Does this program assume you already know how to build a site?
What software or template do you recommend for a newbie? There must be more pieces to this puzzle

  • http://davidrisley.com David Risley

Ryan recommends many options, but he doesn’t walk you through the entire setup, no. So, in that aspect, he does leave some things up to you to follow up on.

  • http://davidrisley.com David Risley

Yeah, I came across Letterly a couple weeks ago. Looked interesting. Not sure I’d use it personally, but still, falls right in-line to what I’ve been talking about lately. :-)

  • Peter Myers

Thanks David- Suggestions on where to go for setup? I’m starting at ground zero, I don’t know how to build a site or which platform should be used. You indicated wordpress was not for a site that would have a cart, so which is? Definitely in info overload mode!

  • Todd Tresidder

    Speaking of updates…

I went to buy and the price was 77 – not 37.

I already had my CC out but was thrown off track by the change.

I was hoping to forward me receipt to you and crank with this.

    Did I miss something?

  • http://www.TrafficGenerationCafe.com/ Ana | Traffic Generation Cafe

I’ve been thinking of ways to capitalize on my site and micro-continuity was one of the options I considered.

I do realize however that it’s not as easy as “set it and forget it”, so you might’ve made a customer out of me, David. I’ll go check it out.

  • http://www.TrafficGenerationCafe.com/ Ana | Traffic Generation Cafe

Of course, now that I checked it out I saw that the price went up to $77. :)

It’s a good choice of course the only way to set something and forget it is referrals

I’ve got the nano when it first came out, and I must say it was one of the best products I bought online. Awesome.
