New and Improved Disqus Handles My Concerns

disqus-newlogo Back in May, I posted my opinion of Disqus and stated quite clearly that I thought it was a stupid move. The main reason for that was that your comments were now stored somewhere else and gave you no search engine love. Several bloggers told me I was being myopic (more or less), but then my point was made even more clear when the Disqus site went offline for a few hours in June.

Since then, I elected to switch this blog to Disqus, but have still not made the move for my larger site because of my concerns.

Today, Disqus has thrown everybody a very big bone. The new, 2.0 version of the plug-in does a number of important things:

  • Makes comments indexable by search engines
  • Allows export and import of comments
  • Automatically syncs your Disqus comments with your WordPress database so that you can revert back to WP comments at any time and not lose anything
  • Administer your comments from inside WP

I’m going to need to upgrade, because it looks like this update addresses every one of my concerns.

    Thanks again for an interesting post. I was just wondering you know the thing that I like about your blog? Its honest, lots of free good advice to increase traffic. Yes ofcourse you have stuff for sale and you do need to make a living but you don't expect your readers to buy anything and still give good honest great stuff for FREE. It cannot get any better than that. Thanks a lot again!

    I know this is an old post, but thought I'd jump on it anyway . . . Did you ever move your larger site over to Disqus? Also, would you happen to know whether when a comment is moderated on Disqus, the wordpress version is also moderated in your DB? I ask only because it would be unfortunate to move to Disqus, use it for a while (moderating spam and garbage posts along the way), and remove it, only to have to re-moderate all those comments all over again.

    Thoughts?

    This post came up #9 on my Google search trying to figure out why Disqus is driving my comment links back to Disqus instead of my website. Not really happy about that, and haven’t found anything on the Disqus site for changing that behavior.

    I like that Disqus separates the commenting from the blog, and ultimately allows us commentors to (more or less) own our comments (vice the blog owner owning them). But I would pay a reasonable fee to have Disqus point traffic back my website, instead of back to Disqus.

    Time to do more digging.

    Such a great posts and I find Disqus a very good commenting plug-in. You can always check back your comments because Disqus compiles all your entries…so, it’s easier to see and follow your comment

    Generally discussion about topic or subject. You will gate good conclusion and summary. You can also put good comments for any subject for the knowledge.

    Ya!I am totally agree with this sharing.I have to import a blog with haloscan comments before the summer is over, so if nobody creates a tool to modify the importer, I’ll write one myself.

    I think Disqus is nice comments system, but realisation for wordpress does not support dofollow commentators links.
