Spammers = Assholes

For the last several days, I have been getting bounce emails containing gibberish. This morning, I get this in my email:

That’s right. Some asshole is out there mailing penis spam with MY email as the return address. I wouldn’t be surprised if MY email is being added to blacklists.

Chances are, one of my PCMech readers or somebody I have dealt with by email (which is a boatload of people) has a computer virus. That virus has started spamming their address book. I don’t see much spam because I’m using Gmail (fantastic filtering), but my email address is pretty well-known given what I do for a living. I guess this is par for the course.

Still sucks, though.

Anti-virus people! Use it. Love it.

    Everyone gets those. I get heaps as I have many email addresses and these get picked up by spammers. Nowadays I ignore the email addresses I get as I know that the spam I get does not actually originate from those email addresses.

    One of the penalties of being on the net I guess.

    Yes pretty much anyone who has a presence on the net is subject to this abuse. They only way one knows is when one bounces and naturally it comes back to you. Spammers 'spoof' an email address. but sometimes in the header you can see where it really comes from.

    I think most people know now that the given originating email address of spam is not the real originating address.

    just delete them and forget about it. Life is too short! :)

    Thanks David for sharing this. I have been so frustrated over the spam emails that I have started to post these wonderful people on my blog.
    It is a huge waste of time and after countless hours of trying to get direct to the culprit, I just started posting the names and email address. It has cut down tremendously on the amount that I have received.
    Thanks for sharing.
