The New DavidRisley.com Office

A little over a week ago, my family moved into another house. It was a major hassle (obviously) and it happened to come right in between two business trips, but I think it will be worth it.

One of the major reasons we made the move was for my office space. I was working in a small space in the last house. I was thinking about renting an outside office, but then we got to looking at it…

When you combine the mortgage with the cost of the outside office, we could easily rent a much larger house for less than that. So, that’s what we did. We rented out our own house and now we’re renting a big 3500 square foot house. The house has a lot of great reasons for being here (it is great for the kids and we have an awesome waterfront view in the back)… but alas, I got my bigger office. :)

It is actually two different rooms. Here’s a quickie video:

As you can see, it’ll be nice to have the video setup and not have my kids mess it up. :)

So, I’m looking forward to doing some more videos! I’m not necessarily going to use the “set” every time, but at least I have options. :)

Very cool, David. Looking forward to see what you do with all the new space. :)

Very cool what you decide to do!

There’s a ton of people who are so obsessed with putting on a show for people in their lives and they do so at the expense of peace of mind and happiness. They rent the big show office they can’t afford. They rent the Mercedes they can’t afford. They borrow the money to wear the accessories they can’t afford. These people would rather act rich, than be rich. Congratulations on not making a decision to show off just for showing off’s sake.

Nice setup, do you think noise from the kids downstairs will interfere with your video or do you only plan to shoot when they’re out of the house.

‘Love the new setup. Nice one! – So you’re going to be doing a lot more video-blogging. Perhaps you could produce a video on successful video-blogging and the best techniques to employ to be successful at it? – That’s probably worth paying for come to think of it. – Perhaps you might do a basic one for posting on this blog for free viewing, and also a more in-depth version that people can buy?

Congratulations David on your new acquisition! Nice office space there. I wonder about sound proofing  with having kids right next door. Please let us know what you do about sound proofing your studio. Not kick the children out of the house and lock the door, I assume. LOL.

Great stuff David. I’ve just had the same dilema, home office just wasn’t cutting it. I did the oposite, rented a shared office space, less home distractions. However, on the figures alone, I could buy a bigger house!!!

They’re gone during the day, so shouldn’t be a problem.

I’m a blogger. No need to show off. :-) The fact that I can even afford to feed myself doing this for a living is more than most pull off, it seems. :-/

    We shall see.

The’re gone during the day anyway, so shouldn’t be any issue.

    Thanks, man.

Yeah, it is a choice. There are mental benefits to the outside office, but I also value not having to drive somewhere every day.

Congratulations David! Man you’re on a great roll with blogging. Thanks for sharing your idea of combining mortgage with the cost of the outside office.

Nice decision! I would also choose to rent a bigger house with my office in it than renting an outside office. I’m glad you have the a bigger space now.
