Traffic Geyser vs. TubeMogul: The REAL Truth

Chances are, if you’re reading this blog, you probably already realize the power of video on the Internet. OK, great. Next logical step is to get that video out all over the Internet on as many different video sites as possible. But, how?

WARNING: I’m about to just call it like I see it. I am willing to be wrong, so if somebody has an alternative viewpoint, please post a comment on this post.

I have been a long time user of TubeMogul. It is free and it works with about 24 different video sites. It also has analytics capability to compile your viewership numbers from different sites and compile them and allow tracking individually. They do have premium options available as well.

Then, there’s Traffic Geyser. Now, this option is not free. You can get a 30-day free trial, after which you’re going to be charged $97/month to use it. That certainly isn’t cheap. However, when mingling with internet marketers, you hear Traffic Geyser talked about quite a bit. Even in my own mastermind group, Traffic Geyser came heavily recommended. So, I thought I’d give it a try with the 30 day trial.

I was unimpressed with Traffic Geyser after checking it out. Here’s why…

Traffic Geyser Seems Overrated

The overriding point to Traffic Geyser is uploading videos to multiple sites at once. When I go to enter profile information into my account, I count 23 video sites available. This is less than TubeMogul. Not only is it less than TubeMogul, but the sites that Geyser works with are, in a word, PATHETIC when compared to TubeMogul.

Some of the major video sites that Traffic Geyser doesn’t seem to support are:

  • Blip.tv
  • Break
  • Crackle
  • Howcast
  • Metacafe
  • Yahoo
  • Vimeo
  • Viddler

In lieu of some of these fairly major video sites, Geyser provides upload to sites like:

  • Adhysteria
  • GUBA
  • Kewego
  • Sharkle
  • Youare.tv
  • Spike

I don’t mean to be overly critical, but some of the sites that Geyser works with are just not that important. Yet they leave out several of the pretty important ones like Vimeo and Viddler. Now, one theory as to why is that these sites might be more picky about video content. Even with TubeMogul, you have to apply for upload access to certain video sites to make sure your content is relevant. With a bunch of internet marketers using Traffic Geyser, its probably fairly certain that a lot of the video content that goes through it isn’t relevant or how-to related. This may be the reason why Geyser cannot work with these sites.

Now, Geyser does have the ability to strip the audio out of a video and turn it into a podcast. It will then upload your audio to several podcasting sites. Geyser also have some tools for easier video submission as well as creating videos using slides.

I gotta be honest, though. I fail to see how this is worth $97/month. In fact, I fail to see how this is worth using at all if you have any ability to make videos on your own.

Undeserved Popularity?

I love affiliate marketing as much as the next person, but it just might be possible that Traffic Geyser has gotten overblown because all these internet marketers are making commissions through referral. Look at this headline from their sales page:

Picture 3

They use a headline which will cater specifically to marketers (“prints money”) and they use the name of Frank Kern, a guy who most definitely is well known in internet marketing circles.

I was so unimpressed with Traffic Geyser that I was left thinking that this thing is artificially talked up by people in the business because they’re all getting paid to refer people to it.

Am I just being a cynical bastard? Probably. A more likely answer might be that they haven’t actually tried TubeMogul.

Stick with TubeMogul

I’m willing to be wrong. I’m willing for somebody to tell me what is so great about Traffic Geyser when compared to a free AND powerful option like TubeMogul. I’d love nothing more than to promote Traffic Geyser to my readers and perhaps make some commissions in the process. But, I just can’t justifiably promote something to you guys if I think it isn’t worth the money.

If you know how to make videos, use Tubemogul to upload it to the video sites that matter. You still have full control of your keywords, and you can still submit your videos to social media. In other words, you can do everything that matters with TubeMogul and do it without spending a dime.

Anyone tried PixelPipe.  I have thought about using this over traffic geyser and tubemogul.

Ok hats off to this article David.  We have been evaluating the usefulness of TG since March 2011 and I honestly put our IM campaign on hold because of the submission errors.  Does Tube Mogul have a sales capture page that you can do it all in Tube Mogul?  Or do you have to pay for that as well??

With Traffic geyser I don’t even have the time to set up all of the accounts manually.  For me that is a huge drawback.  It takes forever so I have barely used it at all.  I love senukex.  It does everything – it still takes lots of time but your results are a thousand times better.  I have never used evo but it looks good.  I just heard lots of people saying evo crashed on them and the dude wouldn’t give them a refund.  As far as I am concerned Senukex is the gold standard when it comes to automated submission.  Add scrapebox to that to get more url’s and your a monster.  Unfortunately SEnukex is under a dos attack right now so it can’t be used.  I have to give the senukex guys credit though – they took care of the situation right away and did what had to be done.  So worst case was that it was down for three days.  They constantly upgrade the software and their support is excellent.  It was a massive investment to purchase senukex (i got a lifetime license), and spending that kind of money was scary but if they keep up doing such a great job then over time it will seem like a bargain.  I would also throw the best spinner in as a tool so your can really kick some arse.

TubeMogul closed down my video posting abilities because they said they were ‘promotional’ it used to be good but now it’s not.

I suggest Pixelpipe it’s free and has quite a few video sites.

While I can’t confirm or dispute any of Justin’s claims, I’d certainly agree that Koenigs is a scum bag. His recent product launch, Main Street Marketing Machines 2.0, was designed all to feed revenue into his flagship project, Traffic Geyser. That’s fine, and smart, but he intentionally charged a ridiculous premium for the over hyped product in order to line the pockets of countless affiliate marketers. They also never mentioned that while building a local “business” using Main Street Marketing Machines 2.0, that were additional fees monthly fes for the services required to run the program, like Traffic Geyser. When you have to give away iPad’s or a mobile video recording studio o entice your customers to buy, it says something about your product. I sent emails to every affiliate marketer that marketed this product to me, complaining about how unethical the launch and product was as well as my disappointment that they would back it. I got “delisted” from a number of lists, including Ryan Diess who I’ll never buy from again.

My name is Adam and I’m tired of the hype! Thanks Dr. David for the post.

I have to agree. I posted video through TubeMogul to 5 sites, 3 of them didn’t go through and then a week later TubeMogul suspended my account. Nothing to sell, no request for an opt-in, just a how to video about using video as a tool to build your client base. And, you’re right, if you  purchase the “commercial” TubeMogul version….it’s $100 per month. Maybe it’s better than Traffic Geyser, I don’t know because they never gave me a chance to see what they really do.

Thank you so much for this review!  I found a review for Tubemogel on YouTube and like you, have seen way too many referrals to Traffic Geyser, so I love your “call it like I see it” post here.  You just saved me A LOT of money and time!

Hey, thanks a lot Dave!  Speaking the truth (at least your honest opinion).  It will definitely pay off in the long run.  Honesty is hard to come by and that’s why I think so many commented positively on this post.

$97 a month is steep and, like you pointed out, there are other alternatives.   I’m glad I did my homework. Thank you for your honest opinion!

My experience with Traffic Geyser and Tube Mogul is this.  I used both before I got serious about building an online business, so I never got results.  I thought both sites were useless because I didn’t put up consistent content.  Tube Mogul is free, but very limited as to how many sites you can submit to, no article sites (which my wife and I write frequently) pod casts, and limited social bookmarking sites.  On average with a standard video, I can get 50+ backlinks to my site fairly quickly which is pretty amazing!

The proof however for is once I started using Traffic Geyser for all my articles, and my videos, my traffic has doubled or tripled on average, and my visitors are very targeted.  They are ready to purchase my video marketing services, or other tools I have on my site, so I’m very happy with Traffic Geyser irregardless of the affiliate program.  Best of luck to us all!

Tube Mogul regard affiliate marketing as a scam. They don’t want your business if you are an affiliate marketer. Just got this email for a 4 year old account.

    Dear TubeMogul user,

Your account is suspended for violating our terms of service. Common violations include uploading videos involving *affiliate marketing*, network marketing, cash gifting, multi-level marketing, phishing, or any videos that a reasonable person would consider to be a scam; spam, copyrighted content and pornography.
