Using Multiple Opt-Ins To Track What Works [Aweber]

If you have a mailing list on your blog (and you should), you’re not going to know what works unless you track it. You can track it quite well when using multiple opt-in forms and tracking each separately.

I use and highly recommend Aweber. With Aweber, you can create as many different opt-in forms for your lists as you want. The forms don’t even need to be different. Each form, though, can be tracked so as see what the opt-in rate is.

For each form in Aweber, you can track the number of displays as well as the number of submissions. By dividing the submissions by the displays, you have your opt-in rate.

If we look at this very blog, I have one opt-in form for the sidebar subscription form, another for the form right below the posts, and another for the Action Comments plug-in (which allows commenters to subscribe to the list). That’s 3 separate forms, each with their own tracking.

When I check out the submission stats, I can see exactly which forms are bringing in the new subscribers and I can tell what the opt-in rate is and, hence, how effective the form is.

Over on PCMech, I am running a pop-over form. Instead of wondering how well it’s working, I can simply track it and see what the opt-in rate is. (Note, I reset the stats about 2 hours before writing this so as to track the stats anew).

The system works very well and I highly suggest you take the time to set up your own opt-in forms so that you can individually track each form on your site.
