Weekly Project Update: The Coming Wave, and Crushing It

2010My friend, Nathan Hangen, gave me a great idea. Every Saturday, he posts a “Project Update” where he gives his readers an update on what’s happening and what’s going through his mind. I think that’s an awesome idea.

Being that I’ve got seemingly a billion things going on at once, I figured doing such a thing here would not only potentially help you, but it will help me. After all, everybody has to take a breather and look at the big picture sometimes.

They’re Coming

Last week, I had an opportunity to attend a talk here in Tampa with Gary Vaynerchuk. Gary is such a dynamic speaker (as many of you know). One of the things he talked about was social trends.

In his own words, he said, “They’re Coming.”

Who’s “they”? The rest of the world.

I’ve been thinking about this ever since. Those of us who immerse ourselves in blogging, social media and the Internet – we take this stuff for granted. For us, this stuff is natural.

For most of the rest of the world, this is still foreign territory. Yet, most KNOW instinctively that THIS is where things are heading. In fact, we’re already there and they’re just playing catch-up.

Businesses KNOW they need a blog. They KNOW they need to use social media. But, most don’t do it because it is one of those zones of confusion for them.

Simply put, those of us who know what we’re doing are in a position to ride this huge wave. This is a social revolution still in progress, and we’re at the forefront.

Nathan is right when he says now is the time to raise your game. He couldn’t be more right. Because, people who stake their claim and build that brand now will be the experts for a fast-growing pool of people DEMANDING our services to help keep afloat in a changing scene.

Think about it.

The Rushed Product Launch

One of the projects occupying MUCH of my time right now is the Blog Masters Club.

Now, I’ve had a lot of people asking me (a LOT) when this program is going to be reopened. I haven’t allowed anyone to enroll since July 2009. Well, that time is coming – and SOON. Before the month is out, actually.

Now, January is a busy time to be doing a product launch. But, I’ve got to slam mine in despite the timing because…. my son is due in a month. A MONTH! And, anybody who has ever done a product launch can attest to this…. LAUNCHES ARE A BUNCH OF WORK. I simply can’t be doing a launch with a newborn around. Especially seeing as my wife is going to need me to deal with my energetic 2-year old daughter while she gets into a routine with the new baby.

So, I’m pushing it through. I will be going into “launch mode” very soon. I’m going to have affiliates promoting for me (that’s a lot of work in itself).

Looking Ahead

2010 is going to rock.

Once I complete the launch of Blog Masters Club, I will be getting busy helping all my new students grow their blogs and their incomes. This time will be easier since the core content has been created (all 30 hours of it). So, I’ll be able to manage the load more easily.

I plan to do a lot more guest posting now that my time isn’t so involved with creating training videos.

I plan to do a few joint projects this year. I already have several people interested in doing some stuff with me this year.

I also have plans for another cool project. I’m going to be purposely vague about this one for the time being. ;)

2009 was a year of development. 2010 will be a year for CRUSHING IT and major promotion and brand building.

See you tomorrow. :)

I could not agree more with this post, which is why I too am excited about this year and beyond. Blogging to success is in the cards. ;-)

Good luck on your son's arrival.

I love this point that you state…”Businesses KNOW they need a blog. They KNOW they need to use social media. But, most don’t do it because it is one of those zones of confusion for them.”

Where to begin? how to do it? whats the best way to go about it? All of those are the stumbling blocks for most small businesses these days. As well as the usual “I dont have time” or “I dont have the budget”. Well the truth is its coming one way or another and the businesses that are most prepared will leverage these tools, those that dont..wont.

It's true! As I continue to work with my clients helping them see how to properly and effectively establish a powerful business presence online, I see how hungry they are to learn and suck up as much information on the subject as they can. A wave is coming and the tsunami is already on its way!

I'm looking forward to Blog Master Club launch as well as continuing to establish relationships with other bloggers, learning sharing and growing together.

Thanks for all the hard work and effort David and congrats on the 2nd go around as a Dad, only this time with a son!

I agree with your comment Rich. The businesses who are most prepared to come out, connect and interact with their consumers and leverage not just the social media tools but also leverage their own clients/customers to help build their brand will be most successful.

I'm sure we're all going to see a large number of business come firing out of the gate with ridiculously pushy products without first knowing how to connect and fail big time.

The title is great, It's time to Crush it. I've been crushed before with indecision and execution, and this blog is the perfect medicine to remove that sickness. It's good to see that success doesn't make you sit back and relax, but work harder and achieve even higher goals (lesson learned). Blogs are like social security cards and everyone has one it seems like, so its time to be a leader and made your voice heard.

Much success with your product launches and of course your family.

Thanks, Sean. Having 2 kids is going to be interesting… :)

I can only imagine. I have one and she is 11 now and approaching her teenage years. I'm learning to be more sensitive as the girl issues increase, ugh! I do know from experience though that boys are quite different than girls… WAY DIFFERENT!!!

Regardless, congrats are always in order, so here's to a happy healthy baby boy for you, your wife and your daughter.

Well said Mario! Speakin of indecision and execution, I'm lovin XMind… Great recommendation!

    Now hear my voice! LOL

    To Your Success!
    Sean

Right on Sean, good to hear, the echo of voices is amplifying by the second….lol. I enjoy learning from everyone's story here, its amazing to me the power of community discussion. Much success to you as well, Sean….

    Nathan has grand ideas!

I tend to give my updates/plan, etc in my newsletter, but maybe I should start posting some of them publicly, on my blog!

And, just incase you got my previous, completely unrelated comment (which I edited) I'm sorry. haha Had two browsers open and accidentally left the wrong comment on the wrong blog.

busy times ahead brother, I think releasing reports and diaries is a fantastic way of showing your readers how they can follow suit in their own way.

Dude soon there will be 4 of you!

  • http://davidrisley.com David Risley

Right on. I might need to make the coffee shop my new office just so I can concentrate. ;)

  • http://www.forty2fifty.com Jason @ forty2fifty.com

Dude… I'm looking forward to your launch. Big time… This post also makes me think I need to work on getting out there and promoting my design skills, at least in my local area.

I completely agree with Gary about this is the future. We're just seeing the beginning stages of what is going to be normal and I'm sure many changes are on the way too.

Cool stuff and good luck with your new born. I'm a dad of twins and it's totally awesome.

  • TheInfoPreneur

    “Project Update.”

That's perfect. I've been wondering how to handle that. I just started reading Nathan's site, so I'll be sure to check that out.

Launches are a TON of work, even super itty bitty tiny little launches. As I found out last summer.

  • http://davidrisley.com David Risley

Yeah, they are. Especially when you have affiliates. :)

  • http://www.dailyshotofcoffee.com mikecrimmins

I can help you with adding the coffee shop to your office! But yeah, I thought I had plans to crush it this year, you might be a tad bit busier than I am.

    Hello David

I do not know but this posts of yours was bit confusing one, I do not understand what do you want to say here. You involved corporate and suddenly you moved to your son due in one month.

Well, I am starting me a blog this weekend and this information was very valuable. I was going to wait until I had my theme customized but that can come in time as I learn. Right now I will start to get my pillar articles written and up.

Thanks for putting out so much value for free. Now I will have to devour the rest of your site :)

Best of luck David, I think you crushed it last year also but no reason you can crush it some more this year. I pretty pumped for this year also the good news is I ran my 1st business for over a year but stuck with it.

Did lot of learning and growing as I am a Corporate IT guy new to this whole online world. This year is more about planning and doing. Will still be learning as that never stops but looking to do a little crushing myself.
